Chelsea Hero Says ‘Football Is Not Fair’ After Liverpool Player’s ‘Worst Game’ Still Ends in Game-Winner

Mac Allister scored Liverpool’s game-winner after a poor showing, prompting a Chelsea legend to say football is not fair.

Liverpool left it late in the Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest, but Alexis Mac Allister helped them collect all three points. However, one former Chelsea player has slammed the Argentine, calling him the worst player on the pitch.

Chelsea Legend Says ‘Football Is Not Fair’ After Alexis Mac Allister Nets Liverpool Winner

Arne Slot’s side did not have the best of performances on Sunday, Feb. 22, when they faced Nottingham Forest. The Reds needed all three points to close the gap in the race for the UEFA Champions League spots and managed to get it right at the very end.

Mac Allister tapped in from close range after Virgil van Dijk headed the ball into the danger zone. The Argentine’s goal, minutes after he had one ruled out, was enough to help the Reds move level on points with Chelsea.

Speaking on ESPN FC after the game, Frank Leboeuf claimed that the Anfield side was poor and did not deserve anything from the match. He added that the defense was good after a long time, but none of the other players turned up at the City Ground.

The Chelsea hero said the match against Nottingham Forest was Mac Allister’s worst game for Liverpool since joining the club. He believes that a win for Slot’s side showed the unfair side of the game, as they had not done enough to deserve the three points.

“I think he is a world-class player, and he’s a World Cup champion. Since he has been at Liverpool, he has been a very influential player but [Sunday] was the worst game ever that I’ve seen Mac Allister on. But he scored the goal, … that, for me, is [why] football is not fair. Liverpool should never have got the three points. A draw, let’s say it would have been fair, … but really, that was so poor.”

Mac Allister had a game to forget, managing just 54 touches despite playing the full 90 minutes and completing 27 passes at a 75% success rate. He also had only one successful long ball in the match while failing to make a single interception and losing possession 11 times.

Liverpool remains No. 6 in the Premier League table because of goal difference, but is level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea. The Reds are three points off fourth-placed Manchester United, who defeated Everton 1-0 on Monday, Feb. 23.
