Chelsea are currently facing a defensive injury crisis, with Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo both unavailable for selection now. And, Blues head coach Liam Rosenior has allegedly told his club to cut short one defender’s loan in the near future.
Chelsea Boss Requests for Return of Loaned-Out Star
According to RMC Sport, Rosenior has asked the Blues to terminate Senegalese centre-back Mamadou Sarr’s loan at RC Strasbourg. He has made the decision to force his club to recall Sarr following stalled talks to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
Chelsea, who signed Sarr for close to $16 million from Strasbourg last June, are pushing to facilitate a homecoming for the Senegal international defender, Aaron Anselmino, to Strasbourg on loan to help them replace their player.
Meanwhile, Sarr helped the west London outfit notch the FIFA Club World Cup last summer, making one appearance in the competition. Since being loaned back to Strasbourg, he has featured in 17 total matches for the Ligue 1 outfit so far this season.
Overall, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner has played in 44 outings across all competitions under Rosenior, who recently left Strasbourg to join the Blues. He could feature again under Rosenior should he manage to return to his parent club.
The 20-year-old, who is valued at $29 million by Transfermarkt, could cement himself as a proper squad option at the Blues, with the club still competing on four fronts.
On the other hand, Rosenior has insisted that Colwill could return from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury before the end of the ongoing 2025-26 campaign.

During a press conference on Friday, Rosenior said, “I’ve spoken to him this morning, he is really good. He’s working hard on his rehab. It’s been brilliant to see him back out on the pitch now, doing his running, which is a huge step for him after ACL injury.”
“He’s itching to get back… but again, we need to make sure that when he is back, he feels 100 percent again. I don’t like putting timeframes on injuries… I think it puts unnecessary pressure on players where their health is the most important thing,” he concluded.
Colwill, 22, suffered his long-term injury on the first day of pre-season training last August. The left-footed centre-back was a crucial part of Chelsea’s 2024-25 season, registering two goals and as many assists in 43 appearances in all competitions along the way.
