Bruno Fernandes is considered a modern-day hero for Manchester United, thanks to his outstanding performances in the number 10 role. And now, he has revealed that he chose to stay at the Red Devils despite being offered a way out multiple times.
So, what has the Manchester United captain revealed about his experiences?
Bruno Fernandes Opens Up on His Manchester United Stint
After revealing on Monday, December 15, that Manchester United were keen to cash in on him earlier this summer, Fernandes has emerged as a topic of transfer discussion lately.
In an attempt to stop rising speculations about his future, Fernandes reiterated his love for the Red Devils in a recent interview with club legend Rio Ferdinand on a podcast.
“I think my loyalty was (checked) in the toughest periods I had with the club and I could have left two times. The club said, ‘No, we need you.’ And I said, okay, you gave me something. I will give you something. Obviously, I think the time at the club has not been as I wanted because obviously, I wanted to lift trophies and I haven’t lifted as many as I should and I could,” Fernandes revealed (via The Daily Mail).
Fernandes, who left Sporting CP to join the Old Trafford outfit in January 2020, also claimed that he has never allowed himself to feel distracted at Manchester United.

“But at the same time, I think everything I’ve done for the club in a certain way was still very important and not taking nothing away from other players that were here and everything. I think when we struggled the most, I stayed present to the club, and I think everyone at the club, I hope, is aware of that because the chances I had were very good,” Fernandes added.
Fernandes Continues To Be Consistent With Manchester United Displays
Despite reportedly being linked with a move away from Manchester United earlier this year, Fernandes is arguably still his club’s best player. He has started all 16 of his team’s league matches in the ongoing 2025-26 season.
Fernandes, whose current deal will run out in June 2027, has found the back of the net five times and contributed seven assists in the Premier League so far this campaign.
The Portuguese will next be in action in a league match at Aston Villa on Sunday, December 21.
