Despite sitting at the top of the 2025-26 La Liga standings with 46 points from 18 matches, Barcelona are currently on the lookout for potential reinforcements. And, the Catalans have reportedly earmarked a top Premier League player as a summer transfer target.
Barcelona Keen To Sign England International Next Year
According to The Athletic, Barcelona are on the hunt for a new centre-back as Hansi Flick’s side are keen to strengthen their defensive depth. They are one of the teams keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is a vital starter for England.
Barcelona, who lost Andreas Christensen to an anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month, are allegedly aiming to sign Guehi next summer. The Blaugrana‘s top brass believe the prospect of signing the defender on a free transfer could be appealing next year.
Guehi, who was heavily linked with a permanent switch to Liverpool earlier this summer, is a ball-playing centre-back blessed with two-footedness. The 25-year-old has popped up as one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the last couple of campaigns.
The Chelsea academy product, who is valued at $65 million by Transfermarkt, has recorded 11 goals and eight assists in 183 total matches for Crystal Palace, winning one FA Cup.
Should the 25-year-old secure a Bosman move to Barcelona, he could prove to be a great signing for them. He would likely start alongside Pau Cubarsi in Flick’s 4-2-3-1 system.
Premier League Star Reveals How Barcelona Shaped His Career
Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez has revealed how his time at Barcelona improved him as a player, asserting that the La Liga champions provided him the foundations.
“At first, I wasn’t used to the ball being so fast. I wondered if I would be able to play at that level. Now, I watch videos from last year and this year, and I can see that I’ve been able to adapt. This season is the best of my career,” Gonzalez told DAZN (via Barca Universal).

“When you realise everything that professional football entails, all the noise around it, especially in a place like Barcelona, you have no choice but to mature. It was very demanding, but I also enjoyed it a lot and learned a lot during those years,” he concluded.
Gonzalez, who joined Barcelona’s youth setup in 2013, represented the Blaugrana‘s senior side from 2021 to 2023. He scored two goals and contributed as many assists in 37 games across all competitions for the Camp Nou outfit before joining Porto.
