Sir Alex Ferguson is arguably considered one of the best soccer managers of all time, due to his 27-year-long successful stint at Manchester United. The 83-year-old has now suggested that one Red Devils star has proved to be quite impactful this season.
But who is the mystery man, and why has Ferguson singled him out for special praise?

During a recent interview with Press Box, Ferguson highlighted how new goalkeeper Senne Lammens has provided a significant boost to Manchester United in the 2025-26 campaign.
“I think the appointment of the goalkeeper has made a difference. He’s young at 23, he’s quick, a big lad, good feet and hands, and I think that helps. I think they have needed that player. Manchester United have always had inspirational players over the years. I think that has helped,” Ferguson said (via The Mirror).
Lammens, who turned 23 earlier in July, joined Manchester United for an initial $25 million from Royal Antwerp on the summer transfer deadline day. He has registered just one clean sheet and conceded 15 goals in 10 appearances for the Red Devils so far, replacing former starter Andre Onana.
The Club Brugge academy product earned his name during his two-year-long spell at Royal Antwerp between 2023 and 2025. He helped Antwerp win the Belgian Super Cup last term, keeping 10 shutouts and shipping 56 goals in 44 overall outings.

Pundit Offers Scathing Review of Manchester United’s Season
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has provided a brutal assessment of Manchester United’s recent performances in the Premier League this season, stating they will not finish in a top four spot.
“(They) are still average. Is it Ruben Amorim’s fault? Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are good players, but the rest of them are an average lot. I don’t see them getting to the top four, which they have to do. Manchester United (are the) biggest club in (English) football, maybe the second, third biggest club in world football. But right now, they’re going through a difficult period,” Souness said (via Metro).
Souness, who is a former Liverpool and Newcastle United manager, added, “They need to get back into the Champions League for the obvious reasons… to generate more finance, to buy even better players, and to be attractive to the genuine big players that are out there that are up for grabs. What Ruben Amorim’s got with that group of players is he doesn’t know what he’s going to get from them.”
Manchester United, who have lost just one of their last 10 games across competitions, are currently sixth in the Premier League table with 26 points from 16 matches.
