As the hours tick toward the new league year, the legal tampering period has thrust the football world into chaos. Trades and signings have run rampant, leaving contenders scrambling to add pieces to address departures and raise their ceilings.
The Green Bay Packers are among the teams searching for reinforcements after dealing edge rusher Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys and losing wide receiver Romeo Doubs to the New England Patriots, laying the foundation for the first moves of their offseason.
Green Bay Packers Sign Skyy Moore After Romeo Doubs’ Departure
One of the first moves Green Bay made was to add depth to the receiving corps. According to Jordan Schultz, the Packers agreed to terms with wide receiver Skyy Moore on a one-year deal.
Of course, this isn’t a one-to-one replacement for Doubs, who earned 85 targets last season. Even so, Moore offers flexibility with inside-outside versatility and special teams prowess, specifically as a returner.
Schultz wrote on X, “Sources: The #Packers are signing former #49ers WR/returner Skyy Moore to a 1-year deal. Moore averaged 27.5 yards per kick return and 11.6 yards per punt return in San Francisco — a key weapon for field position.”

A second-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, Moore was selected to be a quality starter in the post-Tyreek Hill era of Kansas City Chiefs football. Things went sideways, and after the typical quiet season for an Andy Reid rookie, he never found his footing with the Chiefs.
Moore generated only 494 receiving yards in Kansas City, none of which came from his six-game 2024 season. His only season qualifying for the PFSN NFL WR Impact Metric came in 2023, when his 61.5 score (and D- grade) ranked 94th. Still, he has two Super Bowl championships to his name.
From there, he pivoted to the San Francisco 49ers, where he carved out more of a role on special teams.
Moore set career-high marks as a punt returner in his first action since 2022, logging 25 returns for 291 yards. Even more impressive was his work as a kick returner. Despite entering the season with minimal experience returning kickoffs, he stood out in 2025, posting 907 yards on 33 attempts, an average of 27.5 yards.

Subsequently, Moore has carved out a niche for himself, and it’s one Green Bay could use after a frustrating season on special teams. On his third team, Moore will look to operate within the narrow margins of January football, creating explosive plays on special teams and putting the offense in better field position.
It isn’t immediately clear who, if any outside addition, will replace Doubs’ snaps now that he signed with New England. It’s already a notoriously crowded room, and Moore doesn’t profile as a major offensive contributor.
Yet Moore’s special teams skills will likely earn him a spot on Sundays. It’s not a splash, but Green Bay’s first move at receiver looks to be a strong one.
