Simone Biles Sticks with the Colts After Ugly Preseason Loss

After Indianapolis was routed 34-6 by the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday, Biles shared an Instagram Story featuring a Colts-themed shirt with a blunt message across the front: “[expletive] I’m a Colt.”

Her husband, Jonathan Owens, is beginning his first season with Indianapolis after signing a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the franchise in March.

Biles’ Instagram Story offered a pretty concise response to a game that gave Indianapolis very little to celebrate. The Falcons controlled the afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium, outgaining the Colts 464-161 in total yards and scoring on 5 of their first 6 possessions.

Indianapolis never reached the end zone. Spencer Shrader supplied all six points with two field goals, while Riley Leonard completed 7 of 14 passes for 62 yards in the first half. Anthony Richardson Sr. took over after halftime and finished 3 of 9 for 24 yards.

Most of Indianapolis’ starters were scheduled to sit after participating in two joint practices with Atlanta earlier in the week, according to the Colts preview. Owens was listed behind Camryn Bynum at free safety on the team’s unofficial depth chart entering the game.

For Biles, though, the result apparently did not change the dress code. Her Saturday Instagram Story kept the focus on embracing her husband’s newest NFL home, even after a preseason performance the Colts would probably prefer to leave behind quickly.

Biles has made customized game-day fashion part of the routine while supporting Owens throughout his career. During his time with the Chicago Bears, she regularly attended games in clothing featuring his name, number, and team colors.

Jonathan Owens Begins New Chapter with Indianapolis

Owens’ decision to sign with the Colts gives the veteran safety another stop in a career that has also included the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, and Bears.

The move has already received Biles’ full endorsement. She visited Colts practice earlier this month and shared photos and videos from the field, continuing the public support that has followed Owens through multiple NFL cities.

The couple married in 2023, and their schedules have repeatedly crossed between football and gymnastics. Owens traveled to Paris to support Biles at the 2024 Olympics, while Biles has become a familiar presence around his NFL teams.

Indianapolis has more urgent football concerns after Saturday. Atlanta quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Jack Strand combined to carve up the Colts’ reserve defense, while Indianapolis struggled to sustain drives and finished without a touchdown.

Fortunately for the Colts, preseason scores disappear quickly once September arrives. Biles’ message suggested her allegiance is not going anywhere quite as fast.

After a 28-point loss, her message might have been the most committed statement from Indianapolis of the afternoon.
