Shilo Sanders-Shedeur Sanders Reunion Still on the Table After Deion’s Son Gets Waived by Buccaneers

An unlikely place could be the site for a football reunion between Shedeur Sanders after his brothe Shilo Sanders was waived by the Buccaneers.

A surprising turn of events could set the stage for a football reunion between quarterback Shedeur Sanders and his brother, safety Shilo Sanders.

For young, talented, and healthy players, the end of training camp is rarely the end of the road. With a number of leagues and opportunities available, getting cut doesn’t close the door on an NFL comeback, and it might even open the door for the Sanders brothers to suit up together once again.

Could a Canadian Reunion Actually Happen for Shilo and Shedeur Sanders?

After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released Shilo Sanders, the rookie safety immediately became a free agent with the ability to sign anywhere. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns decided to keep four quarterbacks on their roster, including Shilo’s brother, Shedeur.

If the younger Sanders brother finds himself looking for a new team, he could end up on the same field as Shilo. The Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League currently hold the negotiating rights to both brothers.

“Shilo and Shedeur Sanders could be teammates again in theory,” Mike Florio reported. “It would happen north of the border. The Toronto Argonauts, which acquired the CFL’s negotiating rights to Shedeur months ago, also have the negotiating rights to Shilo. The Argos made the move on Sunday, via 3downnation.com.”

However, several things would need to happen for this reunion in Toronto. First, the Browns would have to release Shedeur. From there, the quarterback would need to go unsigned to another team’s active roster or practice squad, which seems unlikely at first glance.

There’s also the possibility that Cleveland could sign Shilo, as NFL teams are always looking to add defensive backs in today’s pass-heavy league. PFSN’s Scott DiBenedetto listed five potential landing spots for the older Sanders brother, and the Browns were one of them.

Next, Shilo would have to be available as well. The odds of both brothers turning down practice squad offers in the NFL don’t seem high. Plus, Shilo may need to answer for his conduct during the final preseason game.

How Would the Sanders Brothers Fit in the CFL?

Given the dramatic differences from the NFL, the bigger question is whether Shilo could even thrive in the CFL. The CFL field is 65 yards wide, compared to 53.3 yards in the NFL. Additionally, the Canadian field is 150 yards long, a full 30 yards longer than its American counterpart.

Shilo could find it difficult to cover that much more ground as a box safety with a limited range. PFSN writer Sean Neumann highlighted what Shilo still needs to work on in his game.

“The former Colorado star needs to be more aggressive in attacking a play and rooting through blockers to get to the ball carrier.”

On the other hand, Shedeur’s skill set, particularly his mobility and accuracy, could translate well to the Canadian game. For now, however, he remains on an NFL roster and appears to have no plans to play elsewhere.

While the CFL option is on the table, it’s likely a distant thought. Still, it raises the intriguing question of what it would look like for the Sanders siblings to play on the same team again.
