The start of Shedeur Sanders’s NFL career hasn’t gone according to plan. A second-generation star and the son of former Super Bowl champion Deion Sanders, the Colorado alum wasn’t the first-round pick that most predicted, and his father promised he would become.
Instead, he went in the fifth round to the Cleveland Browns, where he was the third stringer behind both Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. However, Flacco’s tenure didn’t start as Cleveland anticipated, leading to Gabriel being elevated to the starter and a trade sending the former Super Bowl champion to the Cincinnati Bengals.
That elevated Sanders to the backup quarterback role, with Week 6 his first run as the designated QB2. After the game, his brother, Shilo Sanders, had a hilarious way of congratulating Shedeur for the achievement.

Shilo Sanders Hilariously Mocks Shedeur Sanders for QB2 Role
After an exceptional career spanning Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders entered the NFL Draft process with incredible value. However, the league did not agree with media projections, and he ended up in a quarterback competition for the Browns.
Even after securing a spot on the roster, he remained way behind on the depth chart until last week. Finally, the backup to Gabriel, Sanders, unfortunately, did not get any reps against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Instead, Gabriel threw 52 passes, connecting on 29 of them for 221 yards. But, Cleveland managed just nine points, losing convincingly to the Steelers, who had 23 on the night. With Shedeur remaining on the bench for the entire game, Shilo was quick to make fun of his brother.
A safety on the Buffaloes roster alongside Shedeur, he went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, before being signed to the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
That was the end of his run in the league, but it did not stop him from keeping his jovial nature, especially regarding his brother.

As fans spoke to him in the bleachers, he had a hilarious assessment of Shedeur’s play on the night.
“Shedeur, he did good today. I rate his performance 10/10. You know, I was a sideline kind of guy too. I liked his movement. I liked how he didn’t just stand in one spot, he was talking to teammates today.”

With wins remaining hard to come by for the Browns, it seems like a valid assumption that head coach Kevin Stefanski could give him that role at some point in time if things don’t work out with Gabriel, who is just one spot ahead of Flacco on PFSN’s QB Impact.
But even until that situation becomes a reality, Sanders’s fan base is clearly still supporting him unilaterally.
Up next for Cleveland, the team, sitting at 1-5, will host the struggling Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Then, they’ll travel to New England before their Week 9 bye.
