Deion Sanders Makes Feelings Clear on Son, Shilo, Getting Waived by Buccaneers After ‘Swinging’ on NFL Player

Hall of Famer Deion Sanders makes a playful jab at his son, Shilo, regarding his release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Sanders family has been one of the most popular in football over the past several years. NFL Hall of Famer and current Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has made headlines throughout his football career as a player and coach. Shilo and Shedeur Sanders are also making names for themselves. However, in much different ways.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders ended his season as a Pro Bowler despite a disappointing rookie season, while Shilo Sanders never played a regular-season snap after he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the season started. Deion made his feelings about Shilo’s release very clear earlier on Friday.

Deion’s Reaction to His Son, Shilo Sanders, Being Cut From the Buccaneers

On ESPN’s First Take, Deion made a guest appearance and had some words about Shilo when discussing his family and his release from the Buccaneers after throwing a punch in a preseason game.

“He went out swinging though, I got to give him that,” Deion joked.

In the Buccaneers’ final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Shilo was ejected for throwing a punch at tight end Zach Davidson, and the incident quickly gained attention on social media.

Sanders signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent with an already slim chance to make the 53-man roster, and that incident ended his 2025 season before it began. He did have a brief tryout with the San Francisco 49ers during their injury woes, but nothing ever transpired beyond that.

Shilo has also been in some legal trouble as of late. He was already entangled in a bankruptcy process before a lawsuit was brought against him for an alleged $164,000 in unpaid legal fees.

The Barnes & Thornburg LLP law firm filed the complaint on Nov. 17 in Texas, and the lawsuit claims Sanders did not pay for legal services in a personal injury case and during his bankruptcy.

His bankruptcy case stems from an incident that requires Sanders to pay $11 million. A debt he was looking to get out of with the filed bankruptcy. The $11 million debt comes from an incident back in 2015 when Sanders was just 15 years old.

Sanders is accused of causing serious and permanent damage to a high school security guard after the guard allegedly attempted to take his phone. Sanders did not show up to the court hearing, resulting in a default judgment ruling of $11 million owed.

Despite all of the legal troubles, Sanders continues to document his life on his YouTube channel as he explores fashion and music avenues off the field.
