Shedeur Sanders vs. Cam Ward: Stats and Highlights From the Battle of Rookie QBs in Browns-Titans

How did Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward fare in their first matchup against each other as the Cleveland Browns faced the Tennessee Titans?

A Week 14 game between the 1-11 Tennessee Titans and the 3-9 Cleveland Browns shouldn’t have been a big deal, with both teams firmly focused on how they would fare in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, the names under center made it a matchup worth monitoring.

With the stark difference between the two quarterbacks in terms of their draft positioning, despite the resumes they walked into the league with, it was going to be a battle to look out for. And, in a shocking twist, it did not disappoint one bit.

How Did Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders Fare in First Game Against Each Other?

Coming into the draft, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward were nearly identical in how they were discussed as top prospects. But, in a shocking twist, their eventual positioning in the draft was miles apart.

While Ward went in the expected spot with the first overall pick to the Tennessee Titans, Sanders had to wait a long while, falling all the way to the fifth round and the 144th overall pick before the Cleveland Browns selected him.

Their careers in the NFL have also gone in markedly different directions. While Ward was a starter from Week 1, Sanders was part of a roster that employed seven different quarterbacks over the course of the season, finding himself behind both Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel in the depth chart.

It wasn’t until Flacco was traded and Gabriel suffered a concussion that Sanders was elevated under center. But, in his first career start, the second-generation star was able to notch the first win of his career, while Ward stood at one win through his first 12 career games.

But in Week 14, the competition could not be more different. While the Titans housed the 26th-ranked unit on PFSN’s Defense Impact, the Browns stood at number 3. As a result, the challenge for both quarterbacks was going to be massively different for the game.

That reflected in their numbers for the game as well. While Tennessee was able to notch its second win of the season, it was a by-product of forcing two turnovers on Cleveland, alongside a blocked punt, that allowed it to squeak out a 31-28 win.

But, as far as the raw numbers were concerned, there was virtually no competition between the two highly-rated prospects coming out of college. Ward finished the game with just 117 passing yards, while recording two touchdowns against one interception and completing 14 of his 28 passing attempts.

On the other hand, Sanders had one of the best games as a quarterback in recent Browns history, completing 23 of his 42 passing attempts for an absurd 364 passing yards and three touchdowns.

He also gave up an interception, but he was a factor on the ground as well, recording three carries for 29 yards, including a critical fourth-quarter touchdown. All in all, the gap in defensive opposition certainly played a part in their stat lines.

But in their first-ever matchup against each other, Sanders walked away with the far better performance, even as Ward took the victory.
