Shedeur Sanders Ready for Next Chapter Under Todd Monken

Sanders spoke with SiriusXM NFL Radio about his rookie season and the opportunity ahead with Monken. The Browns hired Monken last week after a long search. He replaces Kevin Stefanski after the Browns finished 5–12 in 2025.

“I think overall, it helped me get to myself quicker. I think I’m almost there. I think I’m almost back myself fully, emotionally, mentally and physically, so I’m just excited to be around the game and these great players,” Sanders said. “Truthfully, I’m excited and ready to work. I went back home to see him, and then I just got out here, so I’ll catch him very soon.”

Sanders started the final seven games of the season after veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel opened the year. Sanders finished with 1,400 passing yards, a 56.6 completion percentage, 7 touchdown passes, and 10 interceptions. Cleveland ranked 32nd in PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact Metric and averaged 16.4 points per game.

Monken arrives with a vast offensive résumé. As Baltimore’s coordinator from 2023-25, he oversaw a Ravens unit that produced a 90.2 PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact Score in 2024 and led the league with 426.5 yards per game. Quarterback Lamar Jackson posted a 94.2 PFSN QB Impact grade that season, throwing for 4,172 yards with a 41-to-4 touchdown-interception ratio. He also finished second in MVP voting.

The Browns’ quarterback picture remains murky. Deshaun Watson is not viewed as part of the long-term plan after multiple injury-marred seasons. Cleveland holds the No. 6 and No. 24 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Monken’s first steps should be to evaluate Sanders’ potential in his system before considering another reset at the position.

Monken’s offenses have leaned on aggressive passing concepts and structured quarterback development, a style the Browns believe can fit Sanders’ mobility and play-extension ability. Sanders showed flashes late in 2025 with consecutive 250-yard games.

Training camp will provide the first real test of the partnership. Sanders’ comments in Orlando marked the chance to build around a new coach and a young quarterback.
