‘He Wanted To Go There So Bad’ – Shedeur Sanders Reveals Travis Hunter Had Jaguars Circled as Top Destination in NFL Draft

Travis Hunter is now on the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to his college quarterback Shedeur Sanders, that was his location of choice.

An unpredictable 2025 NFL Draft didn’t take long to deliver one of the biggest surprises of the night. After the Tennessee Titans got their guy in Cam Ward, the Cleveland Browns were on the clock. But instead of taking someone, they accepted a trade offer from the Jacksonville Jaguars, who held the fifth pick.

The Browns agreed, and the Jaguars walked away with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter. A potential two-way star, Hunter has been arguably the best player in the entire draft class. And he’s joining a team that was apparently his preferred choice, according to his college quarterback, Shedeur Sanders.

Travis Hunter Had a Jacksonville Jaguars Dream

In the days leading up to the draft, there was a growing feeling that Jacksonville would look to add weapons for franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Given their draft position, Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty seemed like a safe bet.

Instead, they landed the outright winner himself with a bold draft-day trade. Sanders revealed it was the dream destination for Hunter.

“I know Travis is so happy right now. He wanted to go there so bad.”

The choice for Hunter seemed clear, but it might have been his dream destination in more ways than one. Channeling his inner LeBron James from the night Kobe Bryant dropped 81 points, Hunter revealed he had a strong feeling he would end up in Jacksonville and even started house hunting in the area Wednesday night.

His preference for the Jaguars might have had two main reasons. As one of the younger teams in the league, Jacksonville offers Hunter a chance to establish himself and his identity early. Plus, reports suggest the team is one of the few willing to support his dream of playing both ways.

As a cornerback/wide receiver prospect who logged nearly 2,500 snaps for the Buffaloes, Hunter showed electric ability on both sides of the ball. In his final college season, he racked up more than 1,200 receiving yards, along with four interceptions and 36 tackles.

Still, the physical toll of playing both ways at the NFL level made a lot of teams hesitant. The Jaguars, led by new head coach Kellen Moore and general manager James Gladstone, didn’t shy away from the challenge.

In the end, it may have been an easy decision for Hunter, a player who was reportedly ready to walk away from football if teams weren’t willing to let him continue playing both positions. Now, he’ll have the chance to prove Jacksonville right. And based on everything he’s already shown, betting on Hunter looks like a smart move.
