It’s interesting how quickly things can change in the world of football. Just a few days ago, fans and supporters were rallying behind Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
However, after a disappointing performance on Sunday, the atmosphere has shifted. Now, many NFL fans and analysts, including former linebacker Emmanuel Acho, have paused the praise and turned up the heat on the rookie for the weak performance he delivered in Week 15.
Emmanuel Acho Criticizes Shedeur Sanders for His Week 15 Performance Against the Bears
Sanders had a career-best performance in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, and the Browns’ offense, which has been considered one of the worst this season, sitting at the bottom of PFSN’s Offense Impact, looked impressive under his leadership.
After giving fans hope that they might have finally found the leader they were searching for, the rookie struggled badly in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears. He completed just 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards, threw no touchdowns, and had a career-high three interceptions in a shameful 31-3 loss on Sunday.
After witnessing the underwhelming performance from Coach Prime’s son, former Browns linebacker Acho, who had been a strong supporter of Sanders, didn’t hesitate to share his honest assessment while speaking on his Speakeasy podcast.
“Shedeur Sanders was bad, bad, bad, rookie bad. And the hard part when watching it is there were so many mistakes that Shedeur wouldn’t have made at the collegiate level,” Acho said.
Sanders has been in the spotlight since the start of the season, whether it’s his relationship with Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski or his breakout performance in Week 14. Addressing that attention, Acho noted how Sanders is often praised and criticized unnecessarily before delivering a blunt verdict:
“We unnecessarily praise Shedeur and we unnecessarily criticize Shedeur, but at the end of the day, it was awful. No other way to talk about.”
Praise and criticism are inseparable parts of an NFL player’s journey, and after such a poor play, the backlash was inevitable. The loss marked the Browns’ third straight defeat under Sanders’ rule, dropping his starting record to 1-4. While many call it just a bad day, many are raising some hard questions about his consistency at the pro level.
Week 15 was disappointing for the young rookie QB, but it will be interesting to see how he responds to it. Sanders has an opportunity to bounce back and silence critics when the Browns return to action in Week 16 on Dec. 21, hosting the Buffalo Bills.
