Just a week out, Shedeur Sanders has the most volatile draft stock from the 2025 NFL Draft. On one hand, he’s linked to the New York Giants — potentially even at No. 3 overall. On the other hand, he’s being discussed as a possible pick as low as No. 21 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With anticipation reaching its peak, the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback opened up about how he’s managing everything swirling around him.
Shedeur Sanders on Handling Pre-Draft Chaos
As Prime Time’s son, Sanders has had plenty of practice dealing with attention. But this time is different. This is the NFL Draft — not college.
This process will decide how Sanders’ pro career begins. And with critics constantly weighing in, he shared the mindset he’s developed to stay focused through it all.
“I’ll say just the self-drive, the self-discipline that I have within myself. I would say it’s hectic right now. It’s a lot of chatter, a lot of talk about just me and everything that’s going on with me,” Sanders said on his podcast, “2 Legendary with Shedeur Sanders.”
Sanders threw a subtle dig at the haters, saying the negativity is part of the process.
“But I don’t feel like greatness can ever happen without negativity. Greatness can never happen with people that don’t like you with all this stuff. So, I know it’s a part of the plan. So that’s what’s motivating me in the journey. That’s what I’m starting to love the most,” he added.
Sanders Visits the New York Giants
While Sanders has the mindset in place, he’s also putting in the on-field work to secure his future with a team he likes. With questions still surrounding his draft position, Sanders is making his case to be taken at No. 3 overall through a visit to New York.
According to USA Today, Giants head coach Brian Daboll and several members of the New York Giants staff are expected to fly to Colorado just ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft to conduct a private workout with Sanders.
If New York and Sanders work something out at the last minute, he could hear his name called at No. 3. If not, he may slide into the mid-to-late range of Round 1. But that doesn’t mean he can’t still land in New York. With the second pick in Round 2 (No. 34 overall), it’s possible the Giants use it to jump back into the first round to snag Sanders. The concept could potentially land the Giants someone like Abdul Carter and Sanders in the same night.
Meanwhile, in their recent three-round mock draft, PFSN also projects Sanders to New York — but to the Jets at No. 7 overall.
Either way, it’s shaping up to be a down-to-the-wire decision for Sanders.
