The Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback job looks set to be a subject of speculation for the entirety of the 2025 offseason, with four players competing for the spot. That speculation currently centers almost entirely around Shedeur Sanders.
The most popular narrative surrounding Sanders is that he has impressed in Browns camp and appears to be the best quarterback on the team. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” NFL analyst Peter Schrager added more buzz, saying he’s heard good things about the rookie.
Shedeur Sanders Drawing Offseason Buzz Despite Limited Reps With Browns’ First Team
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees have remained firm in their stance that the starting quarterback job is an open competition. Sanders, though, has seen far less work with the first-team offense than Cleveland’s other three options, leading to growing impatience from fans and media.
Despite being a fifth-round draft pick, taken two rounds after teammate Dillon Gabriel, Sanders continues to be the only player reporters seem interested in. Given the pre-draft hype and how surprising his fall was, the intrigue around his early development makes sense.
Schrager said Sanders has handled himself well in Cleveland. “I’ve heard he’s been outstanding in the building.”

McAfee’s cast and Schrager also discussed Sanders’ reputation and his unique pre-draft process. Schrager’s comments suggest that Sanders has become a popular figure in Cleveland, likely helped by his mix of charm and determination.
Myles Garrett Lauds Sanders’ Character in Camp
It’s not just Schrager backing Sanders; teammates have, too. After throwing out the opening pitch to his father on Father’s Day at the Texas Rangers’ win over the Chicago White Sox, Myles Garrett had positive things to say about the rookie QB.
The Browns’ star spoke to reporters after the moment, and Sanders’ name, unsurprisingly, came up. Garrett said Sanders has been a positive presence in the locker room.
“I think everyone was surprised to see him go to the fifth round, but he’s come to camp and OTAs with a great attitude. He’s a hard-working guy, he has a great head on his shoulders. And, you know, he’s always positive, always optimistic, always keeps a smile on his face, and you like going to work with people who have that kind of attitude.”
Sanders still has the rest of the offseason to prove he deserves the starting role in September, but he already seems to be one of the most well-liked players on the roster.
