‘You Gotta Change the Perspective’ — Shedeur Sanders’ ‘Mic-Drop’ Moment Gets Shared by Deion Sanders

Shedeur Sanders shared strong words while talking about the differences between the old coaching regime vs. the new one under Todd Monken.

Heading into next season, there is much debate about who the starting quarterback will be for the Cleveland Browns. Will it be Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, or Dillon Gabriel?

The answer is still unclear, but during a presser, Sanders made sure to provide a “mic-drop” moment, which was shared by his father, Deion Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders Literally Drops the Mic

The biggest storyline of the 2025 NFL Draft was Sanders’ landing spot. Many thought it would be in the first round, maybe even the second, but it was hard to foresee that he’d fall all the way down to the fifth round, being drafted by Cleveland with the 144th overall pick.

The Browns started a combination of quarterbacks last season, but the one who stuck and started the most games was Sanders. In eight games (seven started), Sanders completed 56.6% of passes for 1,400 passing yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Additionally, he added 169 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown on 21 attempts.

In PFSN’s NFL Quarterback Impact Metric, he ranked as the third-worst-qualified quarterback (46th) with an impact score of 56.9 and a letter grade of F. Yet, he still ranked higher than fellow Browns rookie quarterback Gabriel, who ranked 47th with an impact score of 51.0 and a letter grade of F.

During a presser on Tuesday, Sanders talked about the embrace from his new coaches, which literally led to a mic drop, as he mistakenly dropped the mic while speaking.

“I think I know how to learn,” Sanders said. “So, knowing that I know how to learn is great. You know, the coaches are able to communicate in different ways to help you learn, and that’s why I appreciate the coaching staff.”

“You could say somebody doesn’t know how to learn, but it’s like, how did that person get all the way to this level if you don’t know how to learn?” Sanders added. “So then you have to change the perspective and think, ‘Does he not know how to learn’ – oh mic drop – but ‘does he not know how to learn? Or do I not know how to communicate?’… I’m thankful now my coaches are extremely embracing.”

The video of Sanders’ comments was later shared by his father, the legendary Deion Sanders, who is always seen supporting him. The Hall of Famer didn’t write any caption while sharing the video, but his son’s words were enough to describe what he felt at the moment.

The biggest change in the Browns heading into the 2026 season is the regime change. This offseason, the franchise fired Kevin Stefanski, who is now with the Atlanta Falcons.

To replace him, Cleveland hired Todd Monken, who previously was the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. Instead of being at odds with his former head coach, Sanders is now feeling embraced by the new coaching staff.

It’s unclear which quarterback will start the season for the Browns, but it’s encouraging to see that Sanders is regaining his confidence under the new leadership.
