Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders endured an especially difficult Sunday, one that led to disappointment both on the scoreboard and at home. As Sanders took his first official NFL snaps during Cleveland’s 23-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, a shocking incident happened at his Medina County, Ohio, residence.

According to authorities, three masked suspects entered his home and stole an estimated $200,000 worth of property. The Medina County Sheriff’s Office reported that the burglary began around 6:46 p.m. ET on Sunday evening. Surveillance cameras inside the home captured three suspects moving room to room, dressed in masks and gloves, and carefully navigating different parts of the property.
Police say the suspects exited the residence at approximately 6:58 p.m., carrying away high-value items belonging to Sanders. As of Tuesday, investigators have not yet made any arrests, and the case is active.
The timing of the break-in coincided almost exactly with Sanders’ surprise call to action at Huntington Bank Field. The fifth-round pick entered the game in the second half when starter Dillon Gabriel was placed in the concussion protocol.
Although Sanders was once projected as a potential first-round talent after an incredible season at Colorado, where he was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished eighth in Heisman voting, he spent most of the preseason competing for depth-chart positioning in a reshuffled Browns quarterback room.
Sunday’s debut was a hard one. He finished 4-of-16 for 47 yards, throwing an interception and taking two sacks. For his game against the Ravens, his PFSN Impact Score is 63.4 with a D grade.
After the loss, he said: “I don’t think I played good. I don’t think I played good at all. Overall we just got to go next week and understand, so then we have a week to prepare stuff I like to do.”
He also noted communication issues and a lack of prior practice reps with the team’s starters, saying that he hadn’t even thrown a route to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy until stepping onto the field mid-game.
The Browns’ quarterback situation has been fluid this season, with Gabriel and Sanders left as the remaining options following trades involving Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. With Gabriel under evaluation for the concussion protocol, coach Kevin Stefanski said that Sanders might be in line to start next Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders “barring something unexpected.” However, he did imply that Gabriel would be the QB1 when he clears the protocol.
