The NFL Draft slide for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders continues. Five quarterbacks have now been selected before Sanders, who was once thought to be in contention for the first overall pick. Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel have all been selected, while Sanders continues to wait.
Sanders has broken his silence and perhaps found himself humbled by what could be an unpredictable and unforgiving draft process for some.
Shedeur Sanders Breaks Silence on X
Sanders made a post on his X account as he continues to endure the painful, and most certainly in his mind, unexpected, draft slide. “Thank you GOD for EVERYTHING,” he said.
Thank you GOD for EVERYTHING
— Shedeur Sanders (@ShedeurSanders)
The message here is short but speaks volumes, as many cannot help but wonder what must actually be going through Sanders’s head.
After the draft comes to a close, it will be interesting to see what teams will have to say about passing up on Sanders, if any do comment at all. The silence from his coach and father, Deion Sanders, should not be expected to last long either.
It has to be humbling for the Colorado QB, a confident player, to sit and watch as quarterback-needy teams, such as the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and even the Las Vegas Raiders, continue to pass on him.
Like Shough, Dart had earned his way into first-round conversations the closer the draft came. Milroe and Gabriel, however, going over Sanders has surprised many analysts around the NFL world.
While Sanders is not the only Sanders brother (safety Shilo Sanders) looking to get selected in this draft, the possibility continues to grow that both brothers may miss out on hearing their names called. Three rounds have come and gone. Teams that needed quarterbacks have made selections, and Shedeur has not been one of those who were called to fill that hole.
As the draft goes into its third and final day with four rounds remaining, one question remains: Will Sanders be selected and come into this league with the biggest of chips on his shoulders and be able to make a statement about who selects him, or will he go undrafted and have to prove that he is worth a roster spot?
Sanders’ slide has been one of the most historic in recent draft history. Perhaps this is bigger than football, or maybe this was the plan for most teams all along? Regardless, all eyes will be on the Sanders household on the final day of this draft.
