Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe Rips Shedeur Sanders After Browns QB’s Major Mistake vs. Bills

Shannon Sharpe calls out Sehdeur Sanders for throwing multiple interceptions in the Browns' Week 16 game against the Bills.

Shedeur Sanders has been extremely inconsistent since taking over as the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns. He made the start in Week 16 against the Buffalo Bills, and continued his polarizing season by throwing multiple interceptions. Shannon Sharpe called him out directly after the second one of the game.

Shannon Sharpe Calls Out Shedeur Sanders’ Interceptions

Sanders has been going through what many rookie quarterbacks do as he has been extremely inconsistent with the Browns this year. He has surely flashed his upside at times, convincing some that he could be their long-term solution at the position, but it hasn’t come without performances that have created justifiable doubts about his outlook as a prospect.

He added ammunition to the negative side in Week 16 when he threw multiple interceptions against the Bills. The second one resulted in Sharpe calling him out publicly, despite it coming after a tipped ball, like the first he threw in the same game as well. The Hall of Famer apparently didn’t see this as a legitimate excuse, and even blamed the rookie quarterback for the way it happened.

“Shedeur, what was that? You’re too casual with that throw,” said Sharpe.

The outspoken analyst apparently believed that Sanders needed to be more decisive with his throws, which could theoretically help him to avoid the tipped ball interceptions that plagued him against the Bills. Two of them came as a result of essentially the same situation, with the second getting the reaction from Sharpe.

Sanders had to wait a long time before finally being given his opportunity to be a starter during his rookie season with the Browns. They opened the year with Joe Flacco as their starter, and after trading him away to the Cincinnati Bengals, they named Dillon Gabriel their starting quarterback.

Gabriel struggled in a major way, including ranking 43rd of 44 qualified quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for this year, but the Browns were still hesitant to give Sanders a shot. It took a concussion, forcing their hand to make the change, and he has now started every game since.

He has completed just 52 percent of his total passes with five touchdowns and six interceptions, so he hasn’t exactly been undeniable in his quest to lock down the long-term job. He ranks just 41st in the same rankings, which is better than Gabriel, but still concerning. Regardless, he has been named the starter for the rest of this season, but anything beyond that is undetermined.
