Seahawks’ Playoff Scenarios: Can Seattle Still Win the NFC West or Earn No. 1 Seed?

With just four weeks left in the season, do the Seattle Seahawks have a chance to win the NFC West or secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC?

There was a ton of speculation and doubt about how the Seattle Seahawks would fare this season. After a plethora of offseason changes that included parting ways with Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett, it remained anyone’s guess how they would look in 2025.

Through Week 14, though, the organization’s decisions have been nothing but a smash-hit success. At 10-3, they are near the top of the conference in terms of record. With five weeks remaining on the schedule, we break down their chances of catching up, both in the NFC West and in the conference as a whole.

Can the Seahawks Make a Run to the Top?

Their record has the Seahawks looking like one of the best teams in the league without question. But a brutal NFC West has given them no margin for error. The Los Angeles Rams, who are at 9-3 with a winnable game against the Arizona Cardinals coming up this week, have the tiebreaker over them.

Moreover, the San Francisco 49ers, sitting just one loss behind at 9-4, have also beaten them in the lone game the two teams have played so far. As a result, their position in the division, and certainly in the conference, is nowhere near secure.

But the talent and production on the roster are undeniable. Sam Darnold, after a career renaissance with the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, has come into his own as he’s paved the way for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to break out into one of the best receivers in the league.

At a pace that would put him near the 2,000-yard mark, Smith-Njigba is already at 1,336 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games, with an absurd 16.4 yards-per-reception average. But what makes Seattle so dangerous is the team’s well-roundedness.

Head coach Mike Macdonald has done an excellent job building a roster that ranks No. 8 in PFSN’s Offense Impact and No. 4 in the corresponding Defense Impact metric.

As a result, even with a daunting schedule that includes games against their two main divisional rivals this season, as well as clashes with the Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts, PFSN’s Playoff Predictor has high hopes for the Seahawks.

They currently have a 97.50% chance of making the playoffs, meaning they are virtually guaranteed unless they suffer a full-blown collapse to close out the season. However, as far as the NFC West is concerned, they aren’t fully out of the race yet.

At 45.20%, they are still in the picture, just slightly ahead of the Rams, who are at 39.10%. Their Week 16 clash could have a significant impact on how the division unfolds. The one-seed is also not completely out of reach.

But the Seahawks have certainly helped their case after a spectacular showing against the Atlanta Falcons. After Michael Penix Jr. went down for the season, things have fallen apart in a hurry for Atlanta.

That was on full display as Seattle routed them to the tune of 37-9, with Smith-Njigba getting back to his dominant self after a quiet night against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13.

Next on the schedule for the Seahawks:

  • Week 15: Seahawks vs. Indianapolis Colts
  • Week 16: Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams
  • Week 17: Seahawks at Carolina Panthers
  • Week 18: Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers
