During the Seahawks’ Super Bowl championship celebration on Wednesday, Mike Macdonald quickly stole the show when addressing fans inside Lumen Field. In front of a loud home crowd, Macdonald hit fans with a one-liner that went viral before the parade even started.
Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald Lets Lombardi Answer Coach of the Year Snub
The video begins with a senior Seahawks official welcoming Macdonald to the podium and saying he should have been NFL Coach of the Year. The crowd applauded as Macdonald stepped forward. He raised the Lombardi Trophy in his right hand and delivered a simple message.
“I think we’ll take this trophy instead,” Macdonald said.
The crowd applauded again as teammates stood behind him on the stage. The exchange occurred during Seattle’s Super Bowl celebration following its 29-13 victory over New England in Super Bowl 60.
Macdonald finished his second season as Seattle’s head coach with a championship built on one of the NFL’s elite defenses. The Seahawks ended the year ranked No. 3 in PFSN’s Defense Impact Metrics, validating their identity. That dominance showed Sunday, when Seattle sacked Drake Maye 6 times and intercepted him twice, controlling the game from start to finish.
At 38, Macdonald became the third-youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl in NFL history. The organization has positioned him as a central figure for its long-term direction.

The NFL Coach of the Year award went to New England Patriots’ Mike Vrabel, who led a turnaround from 4–13 to the AFC’s No. 2 seed in his first season. Although New England ultimately lost to Macdonald, Vrabel’s résumé aligned with the profile of recent Coach of the Year winners.
But the trophy that matters most is the one lifted last. The Seahawks captured their second Lombardi Trophy, surrendering just 13 points and never letting up.
Seattle’s attention will soon shift to roster decisions that will shape the next phase of Macdonald’s tenure, including efforts to re-sign quarterback Sam Darnold after his championship season and negotiations with pending free agents such as running back Kenneth Walker.
The front office is also expected to explore long-term extensions for wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Kevin Witherspoon, two foundational pieces entering the prime of their careers. But on Wednesday, the future could wait as Seattle celebrated its present.
