The Seattle Seahawks have been a breath of fresh air in the NFL this season. After swapping Geno Smith with Sam Darnold and DK Metcalf with Cooper Kupp, many weren’t sure about the direction the franchise was taking. But the results through 10 weeks have been undeniable.
A true juggernaut in the NFC, they have emerged as one of the best teams in the league on both sides of the football. But the biggest reason for their success has been the monstrous breakout from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had another history-making night against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Continues Historic Pace
Far and away the highest-ranked player on PFSN’s WR Impact, Njigba has been on a roll throughout the season. Forcing himself into the best wide receiver in the league conversation, he has been producing at a historic rate.
Flirting with the Calvin Johnson record, Smith-Njigba has been in lockstep with Hall of Farmers. The game against Los Angeles, though, gave him a record that is entirely his own.
NFL insider Diana Russini confirmed on X, “Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the first player in NFL history to record 75+ receiving yards in 10 straight games to begin a season.”
Coming into the game, he was already up to 1,041 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 63 receptions. Unfortunately, a brutal showing from Sam Darnold paved the way for the Rams to come away with a 21-19 victory.
Tallying 279 passing yards while completing 29 of 44 passing attempts, he did not record a single touchdown to his name, while giving up four critical interceptions. That proved to be the difference in the game, as the Seahawks gave up the lead in the division to Los Angeles.
However, on his end, Smith-Njigba was once again sublime, tallying 105 receiving yards on nine receptions, while setting up a 61-yard field goal attempt at the buzzer. It ultimately proved to be unsuccessful, leading to a Los Angeles victory.
At 1,146 yards through 10 games, Njigba has been at a breathtaking pace. At his current pace, he would land second on the all-time list, behind only Johnson. However, within touching distance of the record, there is always the possibility that a breakout game gets him over the hump.
