The Cleveland Browns welcomed the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday for a Week 13 matchup. It was the second start for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but the 49ers were a much tougher test than the Las Vegas Raiders were in Sanders’ first start.
Ultimately, the Browns ended up falling 26-8. The offense failed to get much going on the day, and cameras caught a tense sideline exchange between Sanders and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy was clearly unhappy with Sanders, and one former NFL receiver voiced his displeasure with Jeudy’s behavior.
James Jones Rips Jerry Jeudy’s ‘Aggressive’ Behavior
James Jones spent nine seasons in the NFL, mainly with the Green Bay Packers. The receiver won Super Bowl XLV with the Packers and led the NFL in touchdown receptions in 2012.
During the Browns’ loss, Sanders was seen sitting on the sideline watching film on his tablet. While watching one play, Jeudy was seen standing over Sanders, getting animated and clapping his hands at the rookie.
Eventually, Sanders stood up and tried to explain his side to Jeudy, but the receiver wasn’t having it. Jeudy eventually walked away as Sanders was shaking his head.
On Monday, Jones made it clear that he was not a fan of Jeudy’s behavior.
“Talk to him, you’re over there clapping your hands and all that, yelling at the young fella,” Jones explained. “It’s his second start. He’s working through stuff. Pat your chest first, homeboy, because you have been dropping a lot of passes.”
Jeudy was targeted four times on Sunday and ended with three catches for just 26 yards.
“Shedeur isn’t doing all of those antics when you’re dropping the football,” Jones said, taking a shot at Jeudy.
In 2025, Jeudy has played in 12 games and has 35 catches for 421 yards and one score. The Alabama product is on pace to have his worst season since 2021, when he played in only 10 games.
Browns’ Tough Season Continues to Get Worse
With the loss on Sunday, the Browns fell to 3-9 on the season. The team is buried in the basement of the AFC North and now can only hope to end the 2025 season on a positive note.
On Sunday, Sanders, didn’t have a perfect game, but he showed flashes. The rookie completed 16 of his 25 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown.
The development of Sanders will be a key story to monitor. The Browns will be in a position to add a quarterback in the 2026 draft as they have two first round selections, but they may prefer to give Sanders a full offseason as QB1. PFSN’s QB Impact ranking gave Sanders a 72.8 grade for his first start in Week 12.
