The New Orleans Saints need to hit the reset button on their roster.
Quarterback Spencer Rattler is having a solid campaign, yet the team has a record of 1-5 headed into their Week 7 matchup against Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears. The majority of star power the Saints have is either aging or struggles with injuries, which should be even more of a reason to kick off a full rebuild.
Setting their sights on a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft is a phenomenal idea, but to ensure that happens, ridding their roster of running back Alvin Kamara and others may be necessary.

Should the Patriots Seek a Trade for Saints RB Alvin Kamara?
The New England Patriots are thriving in the AFC, as they are No. 1 in their division with a record of 4-2. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye is showing serious signs of being a franchise signal caller, veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is playing like his old self, and there are so many more positive contributors.
Arguably the biggest area of struggle for the Patriots is their run game led by Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. While neither is a terrible backfield partner for Maye, Stevenson has a turnover problem, and Henderson is simply not meeting expectations. Not to mention, Antonio Gibson is sidelined for the season with a torn ACL.
Because of this, NBC Sports Boston’s Darren Hartwell predicts the Patriots could trade for Kamara.
“Even at age 30, Kamara remains one of the best dual-threat backs in the league,” Hartwell began. “He’s topped 1,100 total yards in all eight of his NFL seasons to date and racked up 1,453 total yards (950 rushing; 543 receiving) last season. We’d imagine Josh McDaniels would have plenty of fun with a Kamara-Henderson duo in the backfield.”
Moving Kamara wouldn’t destroy the Saints’ backfield, as running back Kendre Miller is seeing a higher volume of carries in recent weeks. Miller (69.4) does, however, have a lower PFSN impact score than Kamara (75.7), so it wouldn’t be an even trade-off for New Orleans.
Note that Kamara does not have an interest in leaving New Orleans, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
“While New Orleans will continue to get calls — and time will tell how receptive they are to trading starters — Kamara isn’t expected to go anywhere,” Rapoport wrote. “Sources say Kamara told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he’d like to remain with the franchise through the rest of his career, which was the goal when he signed a two-year, $24.5 million extension last October. Kamara is signed through 2026 and will have a decision to make prior to next season about if he wants to continue playing.”
The key to the Patriots landing Kamara is likely tossing out a high enough bid that the Saints have no choice but to accept and move on from the five-time Pro Bowler.
