The New Orleans Saints lost their fourth consecutive game on Sunday, falling 34-10 to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The loss pushed New Orleans to 1-8, which makes it the franchise’s worst start to a season since 1980. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough made his first NFL start but had a hard time generating consistent offense.

Tyler Shough, selected 40th overall by the New Orleans Saints in the 2025 NFL draft, completed 15 of 24 passes for 176 yards with one touchdown and one interception. His scoring play came late in the first half, when he connected with tight end Juwan Johnson on an 11-yard pass to cut the LA Rams’ lead to 20-10. That would be the Saints’ only touchdown of the afternoon.
On X, fans criticised the front office for passing on Shedeur Sanders in this year’s draft. He was considered a top-tier quarterback but unexpectedly slid to the fifth round, where the Cleveland Browns picked him.
His eventual selection in the later round caused scrutiny of teams that passed on him, especially the Saints, who had considered Sanders an option before opting for Shough, whom they felt was the right fit for their offense.

“Ill never understand the drafting of Tyler Shough,” a fan wrote.
“Saints taking Tyler Shough over Shedeur Sanders is comedy 😂😭,” one fan said.
“Shough getting beat worse than Rattler was. At least Rattler had chances to win some of the games. This dude we drafted is trash ad. Just awful, but that’s good for em, should have drafted Dort or Shedeur. 🤷🏿♂️,” a fan commented.
Fans also questioned the organization’s evaluation process, noting that Shough entered the league at 26 years old after a lengthy college career during which he suffered numerous injuries. Despite being praised for his maturity and arm strength, his selection in the second round was viewed as a gamble compared to Sanders.

During the game, Shough faced constant defensive pressure and rarely had time to work through his reads as the Rams controlled possession for nearly 38 minutes and outgained New Orleans 438 to 224 in total yards.
Meanwhile, quarterback Matthew Stafford torched the Saints’ secondary, throwing for 281 yards and four touchdowns, two to Davante Adams, as LA improved to 6-2. His PFSN QB Impact Score is 82.2 with a B- grade. He ranks 12th among all QBs this season.
