The New Orleans Saints appear to be heading in the right direction with their rebuild after taking a step forward last season. They will now have some major roster decisions to make this year, including one on their All-Pro defender, who is pending free agency. He has been a franchise legend, but contract negotiations apparently have not gone the way he hoped.
Saints’ Legendary Defender Comments on Contract Negotiations Amid Pending Free Agency
Cameron Jordan has spent all 15 seasons of his NFL career with the Saints and has played in more games than any other player in franchise history. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times and also picked as an All-Pro three times, including one as a first-teamer, during his legendary run with the Saints.
He is currently on an expiring contract and is pending free agency during the 2026 offseason, but the pass rusher has publicly admitted that he wants to return to the team on a new deal. Their negotiations apparently haven’t been favorable to what he’s seeking from the franchise, and he recently commented on his frustrations.
“If you get a 10-sack season, if I was 26, I’d be asking for top dollar. Things I’ve never asked for is top dollar. All I’ve ever asked for is to be valued,” stated Jordan.
Jordan’s 10.5 sacks last year were his most since the 2021 season, proving he still has plenty left in the tank, despite already being 36 years old. He significantly contributed to the Saints finishing 10th overall among defenses in PFSN’s Impact Rankings last season, exceeding expectations and improving on their 18th-ranked finish the season before.
Apparently, this hasn’t yet been enough for them to extend Jordan, despite his claim that he’s not seeking to be paid among the top players in his position. He allegedly just wants to be valued appropriately, which he implied the Saints aren’t doing for him right now.
If the two sides can’t agree on a new deal in the coming weeks, he will officially become a free agent and could switch teams for the first time in his career.
If he departs the Saints, his strong production and veteran leadership should make him attractive to teams looking to improve their defenses during the offseason. He seems to prefer staying with the franchise he has spent his entire career with, but it’s unclear if the rebuilding Saints feel the same way about the aging defender.
