Russell Wilson has declined since winning a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. This includes a failed run with the New York Giants last year in which he started just three games before being replaced.
Apparently, this hasn’t discouraged him, as he believes he can model Tom Brady at an advanced age.
Russell Wilson Expects to Finish His NFL Career Strong Like Tom Brady Did
Wilson is now 37 years old and has posted just one winning season over the past five years. This would lead most to believe that his best days are far behind him, but he is not among those who share this philosophy.
The veteran quarterback recently spoke about where he currently stands in his career and outlined his lofty expectations for the future. This includes stating his goals, which are similar to what Brady notoriously accomplished.
“I want to play a few more years, for sure. I’ve always had the vision of getting to 40, at least. The game is different now for quarterbacks … The game allows you to live a little longer. I feel healthy, I feel great … Everybody loves the winning, but it’s the journey that you have to be obsessed with. That’s the part that I’m still obsessed with.”
“Even Tom Brady himself, who played until 45, has been the greatest example for anybody at this position or anybody in our game. He won like four of the last seven, or something crazy like that. So why think anything else … It just takes the right place at the right time,” stated Wilson.
Wilson appeared in two Super Bowls early in his career with the Seahawks, winning one of them in the 2013 season. The past five years have been a much different story. totaling just a 23-35 record spanning four different teams as a starter.
In his most recent season with the Giants, he finished 42nd among all quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings.
Brady epically won four Super Bowls from his age-37 season onward, as well as an NFL MVP award. His accomplishments at this age are unprecedented and represent lofty goals for Wilson, who is currently a free agent after his contract with the Giants expired.
It’s unclear at this point where he will land for the upcoming 2026 season, or if any team will give him the opportunity to be a starter this year. If they do, they will surely be hoping he can live up to the massive expectations he set for himself.
