‘There Is a Racial Element’ — NFL Analyst Reacts to Robert Griffin III’s Take on Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini Scandal

After Robert Griffin III called out the lack of Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini coverage, one analyst breaks down the possible reasoning.

The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal has been amongst the biggest stories of the entire NFL offseason. As fans have been glued to every development, the internet has become a sleuth, trying to get to the bottom of the story.

However, most media outlets have chosen to remain silent on the situation. Even industry leaders like ESPN have been mum about the situation, prompting former quarterback-turned-analyst Robert Griffin III to highlight a significant discrepancy.

Robert Griffin III Isn’t Holding Back on the Mike Vrabel Scandal

Since the pictures from Arizona first went public, the story has spread like wildfire. From errant interview moments to suspicious posts, tampering allegations, and even an alleged Spotify playlist, the internet has caught on to the story.

As a result, both parties have faced serious repercussions. For Russini, that meant stepping down from her role at The Athletic. On the other hand, Vrabel has admitted to some “difficult conversations” with his family and the Patriots organization.

Moreover, he stepped away from the team for the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft to begin counseling, missing a pivotal time in the offseason. Throughout this time, though, the media has remained relatively silent about the two.

For Griffin, that lack of coverage is shocking. Taking to X, he wrote, “This Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel story is getting crazier and crazier. Every day it’s something new. Why isn’t it being covered with the same vigor as Ime Udoka or Sherrone Moore by the media? Heck, even Klay Thompson and Meg the Stallion are getting no-holds-barred coverage.”

He isn’t the only one, though, who has noticed the difference in the two stories’ coverage. During the latest episode of the “Don’t @ Me” podcast, they discussed the obvious angle that Griffin might have been presenting.

“There is a racial element to it with the examples he brought up,” the analyst on the podcast said. However, he believed the situation was slightly different in this case. “For this situation, talking about Udoka or Sherrone Moore, both of those situations involved actual employees of the same institution.”

“This is something completely different when you look at Vrabel, and you look at Russini,” he added. “Because we’ve not seen ESPN or a lot of these other big journalists cover this story, I get where he’s coming from from that perspective.”

As a result, he could understand why the repercussions were different. But that didn’t completely dismiss Griffin’s anger.

However, for the time being, it doesn’t look like the major networks are opening this can of worms just yet. Instead, it might just be social media that focuses on this story until it dies down, or some drastic action is taken by the Patriots or the NFL.
