The NFL offseason rumor mill keeps on churning, with one of the latest stories being that there’s frustration within the Philadelphia Eagles organization toward quarterback Jalen Hurts, and now, former No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III is chiming in.
Robert Griffin III Defends Jalen Hurts Amid Eagles Drama
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, there have been frustrations within the building toward Hurts centered on coachability. Fowler also noted that even during the 2024 season, when the Eagles went on to win the Super Bowl, coaches tried to install and implement new schemes, motions, shifts, and perhaps more under center, but Hurts pushed back.

Over the last two seasons, per PFSN’s QB Impact metric, Hurts has posted a score of 89.9 (2024) and 78.3 (2025). The 2025 score was 15th in the NFL.
As for the Eagles’ Offense Impact score, the team went from 14th in 2024 (77.0) to 16th in 2025 (74.6).
Whether that’s Hurts’ fault or not, we can’t know, but it’s clear the offense has been stagnant over the last couple of seasons, even after winning a Super Bowl. Of course, Hurts posted a phenomenal QB Impact score in 2024, even as the offense was middling.
There’s also something to be said about the offensive coaching staff the Eagles have had over the last couple of seasons, highlighted by Kevin Patullo, who’s been with the team in various offensive roles since 2021.
With this report surfacing, former Washington No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Robert Griffin III, has come to the defense of Hurts.
“Jalen Hurts is one of the most under-appreciated winners in the NFL and one of the most disrespected Super Bowl MVPs ever. The Jalen Hurts hit pieces are getting out of hand and ridiculous,” Griffin said on X.

As Griffin mentioned, Hurts won a Super Bowl MVP title, but in addition to that, he’s been a second-team All-Pro, gone to three Pro Bowls, and is tied for the NFL record in most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season.

He also holds other records, such as the most rushing touchdowns in a postseason game by a quarterback (3), the most rushing yards in a Super Bowl by a quarterback (72), and a tie for the most points scored by a single player in a Super Bowl (20).
The Eagles quarterback depth chart consists of Hurts, Tanner McKee, and Andy Dalton. They don’t pick until No. 23 overall. They could potentially make a move to draft Ty Simpson, but other than that, unless something drastic happens, Hurts will be back with the Eagles next season, perhaps along with wide receiver A.J. Brown.
