The quarterback race for the Cleveland Browns is turning into one of the biggest stories at training camp, and former Browns QB Robert Griffin III just came in with his thoughts.
Griffin has fully backed Shedeur Sanders to take the starting job. In his eyes, Sanders already has the leadership and calm presence to run the offense better than Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel.
Robert Griffin III Believes Shedeur Sanders Has Earned the Starting Job
Griffin made his stance clear while reacting to a play from Sanders in the Browns’ training camp.
“This one play from Shedeur Sanders in training camp shows you three things. Number one, it shows you his command at the line of scrimmage,” he said. “Number two, look at the reaction of his teammates on the sideline. This isn’t some, ‘Oh, we’re going through training camp, let’s just celebrate with everybody,’ type of celebration.”
“This is genuine excitement because they’re seeing this young quarterback develop right in front of their eyes,” Griffin added. “And then number three, it shows you based off the body of work through the first five practices of training camp, that Shedeur Sanders should be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. Period. End of story.”
Griffin concluded by saying, “Don’t make it harder than it needs to be. He’s playing better than anyone else at the position. The locker room believes in him. The results are there on the field. Cleveland Browns, stop prolonging the inevitable. Make Shedeur Sanders your starting quarterback because he’s earned it.”

In his caption of the post, Griffin also said that Sanders has “won the locker room.”
The Cleveland Browns need to name Shedeur Sanders their starting QB.

Although Sanders has impressed so far in the training camp, his rookie season was quite underwhelming, which is why he is not guaranteed to start for the Browns.

Sanders played eight total games last season, starting seven, in which he threw for 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while completing 56.6 % of his throws. According to PFN’s QB Impact Metric, he also posted the second-worst impact score in the league at his position (63.0).
Although Griffin’s take about Sanders is a big endorsement for the young quarterback, that said, Griffin’s point about the locker room is just his own opinion.
The Browns haven’t said a word about players trusting Sanders over Watson or Gabriel, nor have they named a starter yet.
The race is still wide open. We’ll find out if the team agrees with him once the coaches pick their main guy before the season starts.
