As Travis Kelce stands at a crossroads late in his NFL career, the conversation around his future continues to grow louder. After more than a decade of dominance with the Kansas City Chiefs, the tight end is facing questions that go beyond stats and contracts.
Now, one of the few people who truly understands that moment, Rob Gronkowski, has offered experience-driven advice.
Rob Gronkowski Shares Advice for Travis Kelce Amid Retirement Rumors
Gronkowski, a future Hall of Famer and an accomplished tight end, shared his thoughts on Monday as Kelce weighs whether to return for another season or walk away from the game.
Appearing on “Good Morning America” and later speaking with TMZ, Gronkowski explained that the decision Kelce is facing cannot be solved by outside opinions or public pressure. According to Gronk, the answer has to come from within.
The Gronk said, “The only advice that I would give him, because I’ve been in this situation before, is listen to your gut feeling. If you truly love the game of football and you feel like you belong out there on the football field, well then go back. Look at your options, see what’s presented to you on the table and weigh it all out and take your time.”
Gronkowski knows precisely what that internal debate feels like. He retired at age 29 after years of physical wear and tear, only to return a season later when Tom Brady convinced him to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That led to two more seasons and another Super Bowl ring.
However, Gronkowski also made it clear that passion is the deciding factor.
“But only go back to the game of football if you truly believe and feel like you belong on the field still,” Gronk added. “If your heart’s not in it, well then you got a lot of opportunities ahead of you and he’s gonna be successful in whatever he does in his next venture.”
Kelce’s situation is layered. On one hand, his resume is already complete. He has three Super Bowl rings, five Super Bowl appearances, and a historic run with Patrick Mahomes that defined an era in Kansas City. On the other hand, the 2025 season was a challenging one in his career.
The Chiefs finished 6-10, their first losing season since 2012. It was just the second time during his tenure that Kansas City missed the playoffs.
Nevertheless, Kelce caught 73 passes for 839 yards and five touchdowns. This puts his name on the same page as Jerry Rice for crossing the 800-yard receiving mark for 12 consecutive seasons. PFSN’s TE Impact metric gives him a score of 82.6 with a B- rating. He is ranked seventh out of all tight ends this season.
Kelce has been open about the uncertainty. He has said he is still searching for answers and has stated that the decision isn’t his alone; it also depends on whether the Chiefs want him back.
“I still have a lot of love for this game,” Kelce said, noting that any return would be about answering “that flame in my heart.”
