NFL legend Tom Brady shares why "The Roast of Tom Brady" had some unexpected consequences and mixed reactions after it aired.

In recent years, we have seen the human side of NFL legend Tom Brady more than ever after the consensus greatest quarterback of all time retired back in 2023. With that, we have seen Brady’s relationship with his children clearly meaning everything to him. The three-time NFL MVP has expressed how important his role as a father is to him.

This was evident when discussing his recent partnership with Netflix on “The Roast of Tom Brady” on Logan Paul’s podcast, “IMPAULSIVE.” When asked by Paul if he regretted the endeavor, Brady did conjure up one major regret about the endeavor.

Tom Brady Says Netflix Roast ‘Tough on My Kids’

Brady kept a veil of secrecy on his personal life during 20 years as a New England Patriot. Suddenly, without warning, that changed in his later years and post-retirement phase.

Recently, the 47-year-old revealed that the decision to let an all-star dais of comedians poke fun at him at “The Roast of Tom Brady,” presented by Netflix, provided some “tough” moments for him as a parent.

“It’s tough on my kids for sure,” Brady told Paul. “I love laughing at myself, it felt like I was in the locker room…but I do understand like for my kids that was really hard.”

Brady felt it was a misstep as a parent. He shared with Paul, a recent father himself, how the professional boxer and wrestler can learn from Brady’s error.

“There’s some things as a parent that you f*** up and you don’t realize until after,” Brady said. “You’ll see as you grow up, there’s no perfect manual for it and you got to evaluate yourself as a parent, too, all the time.”

The event itself was certainly nothing to regret, being touted as a huge success by many after watching the event. Brady shares this sentiment, saying he certainly enjoyed the experience.

“It was electric, it was crazy,” Brady said. “We got done, everybody was on cloud nine. I think that moment, I’ll never forget.”

Mixed Reactions to ‘The Roast of Tom Brady’

Brady’s children did not enjoy the celebrity roast of their famous father, with their reactions not sitting well with the future Hall of Famer.

“I felt like, a stake through the heart,” Brady said. “They’re protective, of their mom, of their dad and asked, ‘What was the point of that, why would you do that?'”

Brady’s kids certainly had to bear quite a bit that night, with host Kevin Hart referencing the kids’ mother and Brady’s ex-wife, Giselle Bündchen, in a joke about Brady’s initial retirement. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted an 8-9 record in 2022, which would be Brady’s final season in the NFL.

“Gisele gave you an ultimatum,” Hart said. “She said you retire, or we’re done. When you got a chance to go 8-9 and all it will cost you is your wife and your kids, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Fans that night even jokingly speculated that Brady was regretting the event in real time, sharing an image of Brady’s half-humored face during the show.

Brady seems to be looking back at the roast as not only a success, but a learning experience for him as a father. Brady is always looking to get better.
