Rashid Shaheed Injury Update: What’s the Latest on the Saints WR, and Will He Play in Week 9?

Rashid Shaheed injury update and potential availability for Saints' upcoming Week 9 game against Rams.

Rashid Shaheed exited the New Orleans Saints’ game last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a hip injury. He was unable to return, but it occurred late in the fourth quarter of a blowout.

This puts his potential availability for Week 9 in question. Thus, his practice activity will likely play a major role in determining if he will be able to play. An update on his current status came after their practice on Wednesday.

Rashid Shaheed injury update and status for Week 9

Shaheed opened the Saints’ Week 9 preparations for the Los Angeles Rams as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. He is officially listed with a hip injury on their first injury report for the week.

He is joined by Alvin Kamara, Devin Neal, and Alontae Taylor, who were also limited participants at the practice. This is clearly a better listing than being a non-participant, but the wide receiver may need to log a full practice on Thursday or Friday to avoid an official injury designation for their Week 9 game against the Rams.

The Saints will be heavy underdogs in the contest against one of the best teams in the NFL, so they will need all of the weapons they can get if they want to have a legitimate chance at winning. They also decided to bench Spencer Rattler and name rookie Tyler Shough their starting quarterback, so they will want a full offensive arsenal for his debut.

Shaheed has been an important part of their offensive game plan this year and has had a solid 2025 NFL season. In eight games, he has totaled 39 receptions on 57 targets for 431 yards and two touchdowns. He currently ranks 32nd among wide receivers on PFSN’s Impact Rankings ahead of Week 9.

He ranks higher than the WR1 on their roster, Chris Olave, who currently sits at 38th. The two of them have performed as one of the better wide receiver duos in the league, despite the Saints’ overall struggles on offense. They currently rank 27th in total yards per game and 29th in points per game.

This likely played a significant role in their decision to bench Rattler and give Shough his first opportunity to be a starting quarterback. The rookie has appeared in two games, but Rattler has been the starter for all of them. Shaheed’s availability should give Shough a better chance at success, so his hip injury is one to keep a close eye on at practice this week.
