You never count out the heart of a champion. 5-5 with losses to the Buffalo Bills and the Denver Broncos in the rearview mirror, the Kansas City Chiefs had to get things right in Week 12. Unfortunately, standing in the way was arguably the most impressive team in the entire AFC, the Indianapolis Colts.
Through three quarters, it looked like it was just not going to be their year, as they entered the fourth quarter trailing 20-9. However, a masterful final stretch, particularly for Rashee Rice and the defense, gave them their sixth win of the season and kept them alive in the playoff race. Unfortunately, it might have come at the cost of a risky injury to their hero of the day.
What Happened to Rashee Rice?
The season may as well have been on the line for the Chiefs in this game. A loss could have put them too far out of reach of a playoff spot, particularly in a brutal AFC West. However, a 14-0 stretch to close out the game got them their sixth win of the season.
Rice, for his part, was excellent. Since coming back to the lineup after his suspension, he had inarguably the best game of his year, tallying 141 yards on eight catches, including a 47-yard play in the fourth quarter.
Another 21-yard completion in overtime was a major reason for the eventual game-winning field goal. However, on the two biggest plays of the year for him, Rice came down on the field pulling at his hamstring.
While he gutted it out against Indianapolis, it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the near future, particularly with a unique Thursday Thanksgiving game in the pipeline for Kansas City.
Ranked eighth on PFSN’s WR Impact as a rookie, Rice immediately became an invaluable piece of the attack for the Chiefs from the outset. However, after missing a majority of his sophomore season with an LCL and hamstring injury, he was forced to miss the first six games of the 2025 season after being suspended for legal issues.
Coming back to the lineup, his production was up and down throughout the year. But, with this performance, it seems like he’s finally found his groove once again.
