When Will Rashee Rice Return? A Look at When the Chiefs Star’s NFL Suspension Will End

The Kansas City Chiefs have certainly not had the start to the season they are used to. After falling short in the last Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, they expected to come roaring back this season and try for a fifth Lombardi, the fourth with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs currently sit at 2-3, mainly due to their inconsistent offense during the first weeks of the season. The potential is there; PFSN’s Offense Impact metric has given them a score of B, ranking them seventh in the NFL through five games. One of the biggest challenges has been with their wide receiver room, including the absence of Rashee Rice. It has fans wondering when he will return.

When Will Rashee Rice Be Allowed To Return From His Suspension?

The Chiefs’ wide receiver room has fallen victim to Rice’s suspension and the injury bug. Xavier Worthy missed two weeks after running into teammate Travis Kelce, injuring his shoulder. More recently, he has been dealing with swelling in his ankle.

In addition, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Hollywood Brown, and Jalen Royals have all been dinged up but are expected to play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. The concern over those players is compounded by the fact that Rice has been out all season serving his suspension.

Rice was a second-round pick in 2023, and he quickly became one of Mahomes’ favorite targets. Unfortunately, he has been serving a suspension for his involvement in a car crash in March of 2024.

Rice, who was driving a Lamborghini Urus, was in a six-car accident in Dallas, Texas. He was reportedly driving at 119 mph and was seen leaving the scene of the accident on dashcam footage.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily harm, and six counts of collision involving injuries. Rice turned himself in and pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation.

The NFL always independently investigates and metes out its own punishment. In this case, they gave Rice a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He was allowed to return to the practice facility on Sept. 22 but hasn’t been able to play in games yet. Now, fans are anxious to see him return to the field.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait one more week. The Week 6 game against the Lions marks the final game of Rice’s suspension. He should return to game play Week 7 when the Chiefs face their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, in Kansas City.
