Rams Star Puka Nacua Stuns NFL World With ‘Catch of the Year’ vs. Panthers

Puka Nacua stunned the NFL after a spectacular catch against the Panthers in one of the best plays of the current season.

In one of Week 13’s best NFL games this Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams lost 31-28 to the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. This result could allow the Seattle Seahawks to close the gap. However, the game’s biggest highlight was definitely Puka Nacua.

Even with the Rams’ defeat, the wide receiver stood out as the top individual performer throughout the game. A special play in the fourth quarter left fans stunned by the athletic ability of one of the league’s most complete athletes.

Puka Nacua Leaves NFL Fans Speechless After Spectacular Catch

Early in the fourth quarter, Matthew Stafford threw a pass from midfield to Nacua. Nacua sprinted down the left sideline to Carolina’s 15-yard line. He was covered one-on-one by cornerback Mike Jackson, but still jumped with his right hand and caught the ball.

This play was decisive. It allowed running back Kyren Williams to score a touchdown on the next play, giving the Rams a temporary 28-24 lead and letting Los Angeles still dream of an away victory. In the end, the victory did not materialize, but this was definitely the most impressive catch of the season so far.

The catch drove analysts head-over-heels in admiration of what Nacua had accomplished. ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on X, “Puka Nacua…wow,” posting a video of the brilliant catch.

Before Week 13 of the NFL, Nacua was the third player in the league with the most receptions this season (80). The WR did not disappoint after leading the Rams with six receptions in North Carolina. The video above shows that the reception was complicated to catch because the pass came too high.

Some analysts pointed out that Jackson could have done a better job on the play. The cornerback’s hand was in the way and prevented the ball from slipping away. Still, Nacua made one of the best catches in recent years and showed a lot of confidence after securing the pass, falling to the ground with the ball over his body to stabilize possession.

Veteran ex-linebacker Emmanuel Acho posted a video of himself reacting to the catch on X. He could be heard saying, “Yo what the hell is Puka Nacua made of? He didn’t really even win at the top or bottom of the route, but at the top of that joint! Oh My God!”

He captioned the post, “What the hell did i just watch Puka!?!”

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo wrote on X, “Puka Nacua with one of the best one-handed catches you’ll see in bad weather and scooping it toward him overhand-style. Amazing catch.”

Rams Fail to Win Despite Nacua’s Great Performance

Even after the spectacular play, the Rams saw their six-game winning streak in the NFL come to an end against the Panthers. The Panthers became the first franchise to force Stafford’s first interceptions since Week 3.

Nacua (who currently ranks 2nd in the PFSN WR Impact metric with a score of 96.4) stole the show with his outstanding performance, but QB Bryce Young also deserves praise after racking up 206 yards and 3 TDs.

This defeat knocked the Rams out of first place in the NFC. The Los Angeles team is at a disadvantage in the tiebreaker, which is based on the conference record (6-2 for the Bears, 4-3 for the Rams).
