The 2025 NFL season has been among the best in Matthew Stafford’s iconic career. A Super Bowl champion and a multi-time Pro Bowler, he has seen success at every level. However, the one achievement that has eluded him in his career so far is the MVP trophy.
This year, that might be coming to a head, though. After a ton of roster movement in the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams have been among the best teams in the NFL on both sides of the football. And Stafford has been an invaluable piece of the puzzle. Facing the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10 marked a significant milestone for him.
Matthew Stafford Makes History
A solid start to the season saw the former Detroit Lions superstar lead his team to a 4-2 start. However, the last two weeks have seen him go on an incredible tear, as they have improved to 6-2 on the season.
Throwing nine touchdowns in the two games, it brought his season total to 21. Facing a divisional rival in San Francisco that already beat him earlier in the year, it was clear that the two-time Pro Bowler came out with a purpose against the Niners.
In the first half, he completed 14 of 23 passes for 1373 yards and two touchdowns, as Los Angeles held a dominant 21-7 lead going into the break. But the second touchdown of the night, coming early in the second quarter, marked a historic feat for Stafford’s career.

As the official Rams page on X described with a graphic, the score marked his 400th career passing touchdown. Sitting at ninth on the all-time passing touchdowns list, he is now just 18 scores shy of Ben Roethlisberger, who sits at the eighth spot.
On the season, Stafford’s numbers have been nothing short of sublime. Coming into the game, he was already at 2,147 passing yards and 21 touchdowns and a career-high in passer rating at 113.2, while ranking 11th among quarterbacks in the league based on PFSN’s QB Impact.
