Jared Verse had one of the most impressive plays of the week when playing against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. The EDGE defender, who also plays in special teams, made a key field goal block late in the third quarter and also took the ball to the end zone, scoring an essential touchdown for Los Angeles.
The Rams were trailing 24-10 at the time, and a field goal would put the game almost out of reach: the Falcons would have a three-possession lead with one quarter to go, making a comeback nearly impossible. That’s when Verse happened.
Jared Verse Trolls Atlanta Falcons Bench After Field Goal Block
The Falcons could not block the kick properly, and Verse exploded through the left side of the line.
He blocked a strong kick from Zane Gonzalez, and luckily for him, the ball fell right into his lap. He then sprinted to the end zone and scored a touchdown.
During his run, he turned to the Falcons’ sideline and taunted their opponents with two fingers, indicating the peace sign. Announcers were laughing as Verse ran to the end zone:
I usually hate when players do a peace sign on the way to the end zone, but that was kind of cool by Verse pic.twitter.com/BD0YUjEpc0

A curious aspect of Verse’s touchdown is that it occurred via special teams. The Rams were so bad with their specialists that coordinator Chase Blackburn was fired midway through the season. In Week 3, they lost a game to the Philadelphia Eagles due to a last-second blocked field goal.
The fun touchdown gave the Rams a lifeline in a day where Matthew Stafford had his worst performance of the season. Stafford threw three interceptions, including a pick-six, and lost a lot of ground in the MVP race. Ultimately, the game ended with a 27-24 win for the Falcons after Gonzalez booted a 51-yard kick.
Verse also had a good game on defense. He added six tackles, including one for a loss of yards, and repeatedly tormented Kirk Cousins in his dropbacks. He’s having another impressive season after a great rookie year in 2024.
Verse is currently ranked at No. 11 in our PFSN EDGE Impact Metric. He has 6.5 sacks this season and is ahead of notable names such as Danielle Hunter and Aidan Hutchinson.
