Rams HC Sean McVay Pulls No Punches Over Super Bowl-Or-Bust Expectations For LA

Sean McVay knows that the Rams have a strong roster, but he's not going to get involved in Super Bowl talk before the season.

Expectations are sky-high for the Los Angeles Rams in 2026.

After a strong 2025 campaign, losing the conference championship to the Seattle Seahawks in a tight game, the Rams loaded their roster with the addition of Myles Garrett, with MVP Matthew Stafford returning for at least one more season.

The onus is now squarely on this roster and its coaching staff to maximize Garrett’s first year in town, and head coach Sean McVay is keenly aware of the expectations that come with a blockbuster trade.

Sean McVay Refuses To Engage in Super Bowl Talk Before Training Camp

The Rams will be one of the strongest teams in the upcoming season, without even factoring in the possible addition of Aaron Donald if he decides to come out of retirement. All signs point to the Rams starting as one of the NFC’s biggest contenders.

Those expectations, however, don’t mean anything for Sean McVay as he prepares the Rams for another year. Looking to go a few steps further in 2026, he faced the media on Monday, with training camp kicking off across the NFL.

The coach was asked about the Super Bowl expectations for his team and didn’t mince words: “I respectfully say that your guys’ opinions don’t mean [expletive] to me.”

With the current MVP on the roster, and with Myles Garrett joining the team, it’s impossible not to see the Rams as a top contender. They were able to keep most of their important players, while the Seattle Seahawks, who won Super Bowl 60, lost some key players in free agency.

The challenge for Los Angeles won’t be easy, though. Along with the Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers are also part of the NFC West. Even with a roster filled with injuries, they still reached the NFC Divisional Round, only to lose to the Seahawks. With their star players healthy again, they will be a force to reckon with.

Stafford and Garrett aren’t the only great players on the Rams. Names such as Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Trent McDuffie and Kyren Williams are also difference makers. As much as McVay dismisses expectations, he knows that he has a Super Bowl-worthy roster on his hands.

Under his leadership, which started in 2017, the Rams have made the Super Bowl twice, losing to the New England Patriots in 2018 and beating the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021. The coach contemplated retirement at some points during his tenure, but continues to be one of the best in the business.

In 2025, the Rams had the No. 1 offense in the NFL per our PFSN Offense Impact Metric, notching a 90.2 grade.
