Rachaad White’s time in Tampa Bay may have quietly reached its emotional conclusion, in the space between contracts and a win that was not quite enough. For him, it may have come not with a roster move, but with a handful of words shared after the Buccaneers’ season slipped out of reach.
Rachaad White’s Post Ignites Talks About His Future With the Bucs
Drafted by the Bucs in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, White spent the past four years doing much of the work that does not always show up in the news: blocking, catching, absorbing contact, staying ready. But as Tampa Bay’s playoff hopes faded on the final weekend of the regular season, White’s tweets hinted that his chapter with the team may have reached its final page.
The Bucs did what they could in Week 18, taking care of business against the Carolina Panthers. Still, their postseason fate rested in someone else’s hands. When the Atlanta Falcons defeated the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay’s season ended without the ending they had hoped for.
Not long after, White tweeted a message that felt less like an update and more like a goodbye.
“Damn 😢💔 I’m forever grateful 🙏🏾💯,” he wrote.

White’s words may have led to speculation, but the context around them matters just as much as the message itself. He will become an unrestricted free agent in March 2026, and the Buccaneers have not extended his contract.
Tampa Bay’s backfield has also changed. Bucky Irving emerged as the clear lead back during the 2024 season, claiming the starting role and positioning himself as the future at the position. Sean Tucker, meanwhile, proved to be more than just depth, offering efficiency and upside at a fraction of the cost. This has left White in an uncomfortable middle ground.
Nevertheless, White finished the season with 572 rushing yards, 218 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. PFSN’s RB Impact Metric gives him a score of 77.4 with a C+ rating. He is ranked 21st among all running backs this season. All solid numbers, but not ones that guarantee leverage in a crowded free-agent market.
From Tampa Bay’s perspective, the logic is straightforward. The Buccaneers appear ready to move forward with Irving as their primary back, likely retain Tucker on a team-friendly deal, and fill out the depth chart with younger options. For White, though, practicality may come second to possibility. At this time in his career, the chance to be featured, or at least trusted with more, could outweigh familiarity. However, nothing has been confirmed or denied by the franchise or the player.
