As it currently stands, the Seattle Seahawks lead the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 by a score of 9-0.
Despite coming in second place in MVP voting and only losing by one vote, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been underwhelming in the game thus far. Here’s how social media is reacting to his performance.
New England Patriots Quarterback Drake Maye Called Out for Poor Play
So far, Maye has only completed six passes for 48 yards and has been sacked three times already. This isn’t a one-off performance; the 2nd-year quarterback has struggled in prior playoff games as well.
Coming into today, he completed 55.8% of passes for 533 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, and six fumbles while only recovering three of them.
Former Super Bowl champion Richard Sherman noticed Maye’s lack of poise. He says, “Drake Maye is rattled. Needs so simple comfort zone passes to get in a rhythm but that’s easier said than done versus this defense.”

Football writer Arif Hasan shared the same thoughts as Sherman, saying, “Maye is frazzled man.”

JC Vaughan continues to call out Maye and wonders how he was close to winning the NFL MVP award over Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
He says, “Drake Maye was 1 vote off from mvp?”

San Francisco 49ers publisher for Sports Illustrated adds on to that sentiment, “People unironically voted for Drake Maye to be the MVP.”

Finally, Denver Post columnist and Broncos podcast host Troy Renck notes that Maye has been bad throughout the playoffs but has also played against excellent defenses.
He says, “Yeah, it’s getting tired. Maye has been a mess the entire playoffs. Against terrific defenses, but a mess nonetheless.”

This postseason, the Patriots have played against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Houston Texans, the Denver Broncos, and now the Seahawks. In PFSN’s NFL Defensive Impact Metrics, the Chargers ranked eighth, the Texans second, the Broncos first, and the Seahawks third.
Sure, Maye has played against some tough defenses, but he needs to show why he was the MVP runner-up. The Patriots’ defense has managed against the Seahawks, but Maye hasn’t been able to capitalize.
