Ex-NFL QB Praises 95-TD Draft Prospect’s ‘Beautiful’ Throws, Compares His College Offense To Jayden Daniels’

This year's QB class isn't particularly strong, but one ex-NFL QB wouldn't be surprised if a certain prospect is drafted in the first round.

The 2025 NFL Draft will be here soon, and this year’s quarterback class could end up with a lot of action on night one. Cam Ward is the presumed first overall pick, but the rest of the group should be on alert as multiple teams desperately need a quarterback of the future.

One ex-NFL signal-caller turned ESPN analyst recently compared a QB prospect’s college offense to what Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels ran at LSU.

Dan Orlovsky Has No Issue With QB Prospect’s College Offense

Ward and Shedeur Sanders are considered QB1 and QB2 in this year’s draft class, respectively. Sanders’ stock has been dipping since the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, but he’s still expected to go in the first round.

Ole Miss product Jaxson Dart is seen as QB3, but has been doubted because of the offense he ran in college. Orlovsky doesn’t buy it. Dart steadily improved in his three years at Ole Miss, raising his completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdowns each season. In 2024, he threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 69.3% of his passes.

Dart has the physical upside to be a starting-caliber NFL quarterback, but there are still questions about his mental processing, decision-making, and ability to run a pro-style offense. Orlovsky likes a lot of what Dart can do, and compared his college offense to what Daniels ran in school in a recent video on X.

Orlovsky tweeted, “Crossers—big part of some NFL offenses, big part of what Ole Miss did. Dart throws them exceptionally well—and whoever drafts him will want it as a big part of their offense. A week or so from now drill believe he goes early in the @NFLDraft,” along with a highlight video of Dart.

In the voice-over, Orlovsky said, “Alright, so there’s three throws that I think that Dart throws as good if not better than anyone in the class. One, crossing routes. They did them a lot at Ole Miss. He throws all kinds of them very well. And then two, deep outs. Deep balls to the perimeter of the field, to the sideline.”

He continued by comparing Dart’s college game to Daniels: “So something I remember Jayden Daniels doing so often at LSU was running relatively similar concepts on a consistent basis. And some people said, ‘Well, all they do is run the same five or six pass concepts all game.’ And they use it as a knock.

“And I sit there and go, well, they’re running good consistent concepts, they’re just dressing them up in different formations. That’s a lot of what the NFL does. And then, two, he throws it to the right place on a consistent basis.”

The former quarterback continued with a detailed breakdown of several throws Dart made last season. A consistent knock on the Ole Miss product has been his processing. Orlovsky noted how often Dart’s eyes look one way early to diagnose the coverage, then immediately snap to where he wants to throw.

With the recent Derek Carr news, the New Orleans Saints are potentially another team looking to draft a quarterback early. This could lead to Dart hearing his name on night one. PFSN’s latest three-round mock has Dart going at No. 34 to the New York Giants, but Orlovsky won’t be surprised if he is picked in the first round.
