The New England Patriots will play on Monday Night Football for the first time this season, hosting the New York Giants. The Patriots aim to extend their winning streak to 10 games and maintain their hold on the AFC’s number one seed.
For the second time this season, the Patriots will be wearing their throwback uniforms at home. We last saw them in Week 3 when the Patriots lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They hope for a much better result this time around.
Patriots Throwbacks Carry Plenty of History
The Patriots’ throwback uniforms are not just any old uniform; they carry plenty of history that has played a significant role in the franchise. According to Patriots.com:
“The uniforms are based on the ones worn from 1984-1992 and then sporadically from 1994-2012 as an alternate uniform. The Patriots will wear red jerseys with white pants and a white helmet featuring the “Pat Patriot” logo with white facemasks.”
The X account ‘Patriots Uniform Tracker’ posted the color combinations for the upcoming Monday Night Football matchup, captioned, “Here is tonight’s uniform matchup between the #Giants and #Patriots!#NYGvsNE.”

When the Patriots were at their peak, led by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, they often wore these uniforms. All time, the Patriots have a 7-5 record in these uniforms, including the loss earlier this season.
Most teams want to show off their throwback uniforms to a national audience. That is why they likely chose to wear these on Monday Night.
Patriots Continue To Exceed Expectations
It is hard to find a team that has exceeded expectations more than the Patriots. In the first year under head coach Mike Vrabel, no one expected the Patriots to compete for the best record in the AFC. However, the emergence of quarterback Drake Maye has vaulted the Patriots into contention for the Super Bowl.
Maye is playing at an MVP level and is currently one of the favorites to win the award. Across 12 games this season, Maye is completing 71% of his passes for 3,130 yards and 21 touchdowns with only six interceptions. According to PFSN, Maye has a QB Impact Score of 88.1, which is the second-best in the NFL.
One area in which the Patriots have significantly benefited is a relatively easy schedule. They have played only three teams this season, with a current record over .500. Still, you have to beat the teams in front of you, and the Patriots have done that.
New England is in the driver’s seat to win the AFC East and potentially get a first-round bye. With a tough matchup against the Buffalo Bills looming, the Patriots need to continue stacking wins.
