Over the past month, arguably the biggest story in the entire NFL has been the scandal involving New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini. Even with the 2026 NFL Draft dropping some shockers, this story remains at the forefront of football coverage.
However, as the story progresses, some interesting tidbits are starting to make the rounds. The latest to that effect came from a radio host who covers the Patriots, who had a shocking proclamation about their relationship.
Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini’s Relationship Was Common Knowledge
The entire story began when pictures of the two surfaced at an Arizona resort. Since then, Russini has tried to paint it as a happenstance that the two were at the same place at the same time.
Simultaneously, she has also stepped down from her role at The Athletic, while Vrabel alluded to “difficult conversations” with the New England Patriots and his family.
Moreover, the head coach wasn’t present during the third day of the 2026 NFL Draft to spend time with his family. As a result, people have drawn their own conclusions about the happenings between the two.
But according to Adam Jones of the “Jones & Keefe” Podcast, there is more to the story than meets the eye. “I’m just starting to think the whole league kinda knew what was going on, and everybody kind of just chose to look the other way.”
His argument rested on a simple notion. “I find it hard to believe the whole league is gossiping about Vrabel and Russini and what they’re upto, and it’s been going on for at least six years, and the Patriots had no idea.”
However, Jones also believed that the story being a known factor in the NFL could ultimately work in favor of Vrabel.
“If the Patriots and the Krafts were blindsided by this, that is where Vrabel could get in some trouble,” he added.

Vrabel came clean during his admission of the “difficult conversations,” and he is expected to remain an integral part of New England as their head coach. Even though he was away from the team for the third day of the draft, he was a prominent figure through the first two days.
As a result, it doesn’t look like the Patriots organization is looking beyond him, at least as things currently stand. But, until the news cycle shifts to something different, the eyes of the NFL world are firmly trained on these two and the story that keeps on developing.
