The Chiefs entered the game at 5-5 and needed a win to keep their postseason dreams alive. Facing the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City trailed by 11 points entering the fourth quarter and was pinned deep near its own end zone later on.
Never mind the recent struggles in late-game situations, the team executed its most composed and complete stretch of play this season, as the Colts went three-and-out on all four of their final possessions in the fourth quarter and overtime.
On Monday, Brittany posted several images on Instagram from the game and her children watching their father lead the team during crucial moments. She captioned the post, “Sideline chaos,” as the children hugged their father in a small clip near the end.
Kansas City produced a length-of-field drive in the final four and a half minutes, and a sack by the Colts on third down set up a short field goal to tie the game. In overtime, after the defense forced a three-and-out, the Chiefs again moved nearly the full length of the field to set up another short kick, winning 23-20.
Mahomes finished with a season-high 352 passing yards, 142 of which came on the final drive of regulation and the decisive drive in overtime. PFSN’s Impact metric ranks him 12th in the season with a score of 80.2 and a grade of B-.
“You could have folded in that situation and been kind of (done) for the rest of the season,” Mahomes said, via APNews.com.

He added, “The guys responded and found a way to win. Every single unit. Offense, we found a way at the end. Defense stood tall multiple times to give us a chance, and then Harrison (Butker) and (Matt) Araiza did a great job flipping the field and making field goals. We needed a win like this, and now let’s just try to build off of it.”
The win moved the Chiefs to 6-5, but their schedule leaves little margin for error. Kansas City now turns around on a short week for a Thanksgiving road game against the Dallas Cowboys, who are coming off a comeback win against the Philadelphia Eagles.
A win would strengthen Kansas City’s way toward the postseason at 7-5; a loss would drop the team to 6-6.
