While Rice’s comeback has already been a major talking point across the league, Brittany Mahomes, the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also joined in, adding to the hype again this week.
Brittany Mahomes Teases Key Offensive Reunion Ahead of Chiefs’ Week 7 Matchup
Posting to her Instagram story, Brittany shared a CBS Sports graphic that read, “Sunday will be the first time Mahomes plays with Worthy, Rice and Brown in the same game,” a reminder that Kansas City’s offense is finally about to resemble the high-powered attack fans have been waiting for.
Rice’s return comes at a crucial time. Kansas City sits at 3-3 entering Week 7, showing flashes of brilliance but also struggling with rhythm and consistency on offense.
They enter Sunday’s home matchup against the 2-4 Las Vegas Raiders, fresh off a 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions, but their season has been defined by inconsistency rather than dominance.
Rashee Rice Rejoins Chiefs After Serving Six-Game Suspension
Rice’s suspension resulted from a March 2024 multi-car crash in Dallas, in which he pleaded guilty to felony charges involving racing on a highway and fleeing the scene. The NFL included this incident and past off-field issues in issuing a six-game ban.
Rice has completed his punishment and is now reinstated, returning to practice on Wednesday. Head coach Andy Reid made it clear he will ease the receiver back into action: “It’s great to have him back,” Reid said. “He’s fresh here, so we’ll see how he does. He’s a good football player and as a coach, I always welcome that for sure. I think getting through practices here will be good for him to kind of get back into the swing of things.”
Patrick Mahomes echoed that Rice brings a competitive fire, but the team plans to be smart with his usage, “He’s going to want to be out there every single play,” Mahomes said on Wednesday. “That’s the mentality that he has. I think it’s gonna be our job as teammates and coaches to kind of build him back the right way, but it’s gonna be hard to keep him off the field for sure.”

Rice last played in Week 4 of the 2024 season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. In just three games last year, he recorded 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. A fully healthy Rice brings physicality, yards-after-catch ability, and an aggressive mentality that this Chiefs offense has desperately missed.
Chiefs Offense Getting Back to Its Identity
So far this season, Kansas City has looked different without Rice. Their record sits at 3–3, and although they’ve won three of their last four, the offense hasn’t fully regained its championship form. However, recent metrics suggest a breakthrough could be coming.
According to PFSN’s Offense Impact (OFFi) ratings, Kansas City ranks No. 6 in overall offensive impact at 87.0 and No. 10 in defensive impact at 78.5. The Chiefs average 5.7 yards per play, and convert nearly 48% of their third and fourth downs, a top-three mark in the league. Their ball security has also been elite, ranking second in turnover percentage at just 3.6%, and their offensive line has kept Mahomes upright with a 4.5% sack rate.
With first-round pick Xavier Worthy back from injury, the trio of Worthy, Rice, and Brown finally gives Mahomes a dynamic receiving corps. But Rice isn’t just another weapon; he changes how Kansas City moves the ball.
The return of the wide receiver gives the Kansas City Chiefs a major boost, especially in an area where they’ve struggled without him, yards after the catch. Kansas City regains one of its most dynamic playmakers with Rice back in the lineup for the first time since Week 4 of the 2024 season. His ability to turn short receptions into explosive gains fits perfectly within Reid’s offensive system. It helps restore the rhythm and versatility that have defined the Chiefs during their most dominant stretches.
Kansas City now faces a defining stretch of its season, beginning Sunday against a gritty Raiders team in an AFC West rivalry matchup.
