Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t hold back in expressing his extreme displeasure over the team’s play call on a 4th and 1 in Sunday’s AFC West battle against the Las Vegas Raiders. Or at least that’s what it seemed before an epic plot twist that fooled Kansas City’s rival.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are accustomed to a Super Bowl-winning standard. The superstar field general’s competitive fire burns hot even as Kansas City led 7-0 in this situation, and entered Week 7 having won three of its last four games. When Mahomes erupted on the field at Arrowhead Stadium, CBS announcer Tony Romo wasn’t the only one to get a kick out of the candid, profane moment.
What Did Patrick Mahomes say on a Hot Mic in Week 7?
With the Chiefs on their side of midfield, Mahomes got to the line of scrimmage and attempted a hard count against the Raiders’ defense. They didn’t jump whatsoever, and Mahomes lamented the alleged failure to execute the play by popping off with a couple of f-bombs.
Mahomes just went full Paul Crewe on the hot mic 🤣

Keep watching the rest of the way after Mahomes’ jarring lingo, though, and you’ll see that center Creed Humphrey did, in fact, snap the ball back to Mahomes, who handed it off for a successful first-down plunge.
Here are the reactions from several X/Twitter users as Mahomes’ hilarious moment started to go viral.

Kareem Hunt’s gain of three yards kept the Chiefs’ second touchdown drive alive. They just continue moving the ball at will on a hapless Las Vegas unit. As of this writing, Kansas City is into the third quarter with a 31-0 lead, including two Mahomes TD passes to Rashee Rice.
The joke here is, of course, a reference to the movie “The Longest Yard” and Burt Reynolds’ character Paul Crewe. He’s a quarterback-turned-convict who’s known for unconventional tactics as the inmates of his prison square off on the gridiron against the heavily favored prison guard team. Almost needless to say, things work out well in the end for Crewe’s crew, and that was certainly the case in this instance for Mahomes and his offensive unit.
A big reason for the Chiefs’ current dynastic run is the play-calling innovation of head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes’ ability to execute those exotic designs. Kansas City somehow manages to stay ahead of the curve every single year, when every single opponent is putting forth their best to try to disrupt the AFC’s preeminent team.
It’s often the little things and finer details that separate the contenders from the pretenders in the NFL. This theatrical, Oscar-worthy turn from Mahomes is a microcosm of that phenomenon.
