‘Packers in Shambles’ — Fans React After NFL Tush Push Ban Fails

NFL fans erupted after the league voted to keep the Tush Push. Packers caught heat online as social media lit up with celebrations and conspiracy claims.

One of the NFL’s most controversial plays isn’t going anywhere. During Wednesday’s vote at the spring league meeting in Minnesota, NFL owners declined to ban the quarterback sneak variation dubbed the Tush Push, opting to preserve the tactic for at least another season. A minimum of 24 of the league’s 32 teams would have needed to approve the ban. The proposal fell two votes short, 22-10, allowing the play to remain a legal part of the rulebook.

NFL fans — those who supported the Tush Push ban and those who love that it remains — took to social media to voice both sides.

Tush Push Survives: Inside the NFL’s Most Heated Debate

Proponents and opponents of outlawing the play spoke publicly about it during the first two days of the meetings, echoing a debate that’s been brewing since the 2023 season. In April, the vote was pushed to May to allow teams time to study potential injury risk and broader implications. After months of tension, league owners ultimately decided to keep the play in place.

The Tush Push, most famously executed by the Philadelphia Eagles, involves teammates lining up behind quarterback Jalen Hurts and driving him forward immediately after the snap. It’s brutally effective — and equally divisive. Critics say it removes skill and turns football into a rugby scrum. Supporters argue that it’s within the rules and simply a matter of execution and preparation.

Philadelphia has made no apologies for perfecting the play (and its social media team responded with an epic 26-minute Tush Push highlight reel on YouTube.) Though the team insists it’s only one tool in a much larger offensive scheme, the results are hard to ignore. Last season, the Eagles led the NFL in time of possession — a stat that made opponents like the Packers even more vocal about banning the tactic.

But for now, the Eagles and any other team using the play can continue without restriction. Still, the conversation is far from over. If injury trends shift or league perception continues to sour, the Tush Push will likely be up for debate again in 2026.

NFL Fans Pile on Packers After Tush Push Survives

NFL fans wasted no time turning social media into a battleground once news of the vote broke — and the Green Bay Packers took the brunt of the blowback.

As one user put it plainly, “Packers in shambles.”

Another followed up with the blunt, “lol get f***ed Packers,” while a third chimed in, “Now let’s make Green Bay pay.” The criticism snowballed from there: “packers did all that bitching for nothing.”

While much of the early reaction took aim at the Packers for pushing hard to ban the play, others zeroed in on the league office. One fan posted, “A loss for Goodell is a win for humanity.” Another celebrated the decision: “Good, teams can find a way to stop it now.”

But it wasn’t all celebration. Plenty of users expressed disappointment. One fan wrote, “My god ban this garbage.”

“It should stay. This shouldn’t be a hot take either,” another added. The split opinion reflects just how deeply the Tush Push has divided the football world.

Some took a player safety angle: “Miserable. Not a football play,” one user wrote. Another was more direct: “Absolute joke … if player safety is an issue on FGs where the center can’t be touched, then this play certainly has the same issue… not to mention guys jumping the snap all day … it’s horrific for the game.”

Eagles fans weren’t spared either. One fan warned, “Eagles fans gonna be pissed when an opposing team beats them with a tush push.” Conspiracy theories even crept in, with a post claiming, “NFL and Eagles ownership in cahoots.” Others kept it simple: “This is bad for the league.”

In true NFL fashion, the drama surrounding the play didn’t end with the vote — it only moved to the timeline.
