The Green Bay Packers handled business against the New York Giants in Week 11 with a 27-20 win. However, they suffered a minor injury scare in the process. Star running back Josh Jacobs had to leave the game early with a knee injury, and fans immediately assumed the worst.
Luckily, it seems that the worst-case scenario was avoided, as it has since been reported that Jacobs’ knee is “structurally sound” and the veteran is considered “day-to-day.” Head coach Matt Lafleur also provided an update on fellow running back MarShawn Lloyd, who has yet to play in 2025.
When Could MarShawn Lloyd Make His 2025 Debut?
Lloyd was added to the injured reserve before the season due to a hamstring injury after playing in one preseason game. Lafleur was asked if the 21-day practice windows could be opened for Lloyd or anybody else soon.
“I sure as heck hope so,” said Lafleur. “Potentially, we’ll have a better idea over the next two days.” The coach also added that Lloyd is in a “really good spot” physically.
The return to practice would not necessarily mean an immediate return to game action. Players returning from injured reserve have a three-week window to practice with the team as they ramp up to game form.
The Packers would certainly like to welcome Lloyd into the fold, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Jacobs. While Jacobs isn’t expected to miss significant time, he could miss the Week 12 matchup.
The Packers selected Lloyd out of USC in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Lloyd played in only one game, rushing six times for 15 yards and catching one pass for three yards.
Lloyd could have been the primary backup to Jacobs, but injuries and Appendicitis limited his rookie campaign. Then, the hamstring injury suffered in the preseason took away most of his 2025 season. The hope is that Lloyd will get to play over the final stretch of the season and build momentum heading into 2026.
Although, as long as Jacobs is healthy, there won’t be that many snaps to take. Jacobs has rushed for 648 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. PFSN’s RB Impact ranking gives Jacobs a solid 81.9 grade for his performance in 2025.
Emanuel Wilson has received most of the other carries and has 220 yards and one score so far. Once Lloyd is healthy, though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some of Wilson’s carries go to him. Lloyd rushed for 1,621 yards and 19 touchdowns in 32 college games, and as a third-round pick, the team would like for him to contribute.
